Postby myothercarisajumpsuit » Tue Jul 13, 2004 7:54 am

what's the required working visa income per month?

is this the same for an artist visa?

being not on tremor island at the moment, where can i find the up to date specifics clear cut in english on the web about the artist visa (guidelines and requiremnets)?

i'm trying to slidea artist visa,
so i can work alittle bit if i need to while i'm there.

saying "sessha wa gaijin de gozaru" doesn't seem to cut it anymore.

No 96. JPY200,000 is the Magic Number

Frankly, even if they really scrimped, it would be hard to imagine a couple surviving on much less than JPY4,000 per day for food and transport, which would total JPY120,000 a month.

In giving her this advice, I also expressed the opinion (yes, I told her to get professional advice as backup) that her daughter would be well served coming to Japan on a spouse visa and then attempt to switch to a work visa as soon as possible. As I understand it, you're normally not supposed to work when you're the spouse of a foreigner.

Hearing what a low salary the prospective groom was receiving started me wondering what Japan's minimum wage is. I've heard various stories about whether there really is a minimum wage in Japan. Theoretically there is one, but given that someone can be classed as a "part-time" worker for up to a year, it's anybody's guess as to whether minimum pay rules really get enforced.
The ILO web site (http://www2.mhlw.go.jp/english/outline/04-10.htm) says that the minimum wage varies between professions and prefectures, but for laboring work in Tokyo, it is JPY5,465 per day, which works out to about JPY121,000 per month.

The geniuses at that J-government site say:

Please contact the Immigration Information Center

The Immigration Information Center in turn says:
The Immigration Information Center wrote:f you need assistance on immigration matters, visit or call the new "Immigration Information Center"
Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau Office (5-5-30, Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo)
Telephone : (03) 5796-7112

This means the Immigration Information Center is INCAPABLE of writing the rules because there ain't any.

i've talked to the japan embassy here and they are equally clueless.

along with other reqs, i wonder if i gave the immigration office in tokyo an official statement stating that i have a financial backing of 1,000,000 yen (only 6 months at 200,000 yen a month), if they would give me a greenlight on the 1 year artist visa.

any opinions?
or similar routes any of you have taken?

thanks

I gave some advice to a a guy i met, who was here on a shoping trip and wanted to live here, due to the availability of manga
Do you have a degree?
No?, well fuck off then
and fuck off he did, all the way to the Ghibli museum
Why does every gaijin i meet want to talk about anime?
Do i have to buy a T-Shirt saying " I HATE ANIME"???

When I was self-employed and could have reported whatever income I wanted for tax purposes, I always made sure to claim I made at least 250,000yen a month so that I wouldn't have any trouble each time I renewed my visa. Yes, I could have claimed I made less and paid lower taxes but I figure if 25man/month is the lowest Japan allows employers to pay people for 'professional' working visas, then that must be the amount of money they figure one needs to not be a problem. It is of course possible to live on less money than that, but I wouldn't see the point: any gaijin can make that much in Japan easily.
