could anyone help shipping a camera to the uk?

Postby kotatsuneko » Thu Jul 15, 2004 6:00 am

my best friend in london is after a new sony digicam, which wont be coming to the uk and has asked me to try and get it for him

thing is the only people i know personally in japan are my parents in law who live in the countryside.

he would add on some extra money within reason for the hassle.. i know its rather cheeky but thought it worth a try..

cheers!

Slightly confused... You want advice on how to get it or... you're not in Japan either and want someone to buy it and send it?

Either way - I was a helper in exporting cameras to Germany, and we just sent them by ordinary P.O. airmail in a box. Cost about 2000 yen. Never had a loss or breakage. Don't tell them it's a camera or they'll stick on 10% of the value of the camera in insurance!! The insurance is an unnecessary scam. The plane would have to crash into Tokyo tower (please! - what a monstrosity) to break a camera sealed inside a foam-packed box.

*Aside - there's a big profit to be had buying specialist cameras retail(!) in Japan and selling them on in Der Fatherland for anyone who's interested to know.

We always bought from Bic Camera in Ikebukuro. Cheapest we could find and the "point card" gives you 10-15% discount value onto the card. Get the price from the web so you know the facts before anyone offers you the pricing...

At the moment I`m back in rondon, I used bic extensively in sapporo especially when they had the extra city card promo on top of their regular loyalty card..

I understand that people are busy, but it was worth a try anyhow..

Thanks for the reply tho ^^
