I wasn't being anti-semetic... I thought I remembered reading somewhere that 2 of the 12 tribes were destroyed over 3,000 years ago. That's why I posted the because I don't know if that information is factual or not.

Right... I thought I had read that the "lost" was a euphamism for "destroyed", or that they intermarried into other cultures (possibly the Canaanites?) and lost their identity as a tribe.

Well no one really knows for sure what happened. Hence all the speculation about where they ended up... and again, this is why they're "lost tribes" and not "destroyed tribes" or "the tribes that decided to have sex with shikses thereby breeding themselves into obscurity".

That's easy. If you are telling a story to children about the history of your people, which makes the best story:
[1] Bad people wiped out 2 of our groups
[2] 2 groups intermarried with others, losing their status as a tribe of Israel
[3] 2 groups disappeared into history, but someday they'll return

I think [3] makes the best bedtime story.
