Jenkins planned to take abductee wife back to N. Korea(Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, July 26, 2004)
Charles Jenkins revealed he had been set to take his wife Hitomi Soga back to North Korea if their reunion had taken place in Beijing instead of Jakarta, sources said.....
....Jenkins told them that he had been set to take Soga to North Korea if they had met in Beijing, according to Japanese sources.
North Korea authorities had promised a car with a driver and increased food rations if he managed to take Soga to Pyongyang, the sources said.

Jenkins sounds wacked out

Postby Taro Toporific » Wed Jul 28, 2004 11:02 am

Jenkins sure sounds like a sad sack.

The full text of the letter--reprinted here as Jenkins wrote it--is as follows:

"James I am sick and I can see (no one). Pat called me two times.

"I would like to see you, but it is impossible at this time. But please leave the video cassetts (sic). I would like to see my family befor (sic) I die.

"Tell everyone I said hello and if I make it through the courtmarishal (sic) I will see you all. Love Robert Jenkins."

Interesting he didn't sign it 'Charles', like the only copied evidence the military has of him being a deserter.

Apparently your math skills are slipping. Again, I refer you to the three other letters he left.

But James Hyman, a nephew, said that the military has no hard evidence of his uncle's supposed defection, and believes instead he was kidnapped.

He pointed out that the army lost the original copies of the notes.

"Of course they weren't able to be found. There were no four letters," he told BBC News Online.

[The quoted note] "was signed 'Love, Charles,' and the family didn't know him as Charles. They knew him as Robert or 'Super'," Mr Hyman said. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3753967.stm

According to what I've read, the only damning evidence the military has are the faded copies of Jenkins' 'alleged' desertion letters. This will never stick if he has a good lawyer.

But if you include the kind of character he played in a propaganda film, I guess he's guilty. So this traitor bitch should also be shackled, no?
Kim Jong Il is a movie fanatic, and is said to hav a collection of over 20,000 films. In 1978, in order to advance the North Korean film industry, he ordered North Korean agents to abduct the famous South Korean movie director Shin Sang Ok and his ex-wife, actress Che Eun Hui, and kept them for eight years while making them produce propaganda films. During that time, the two became very well acquainted with Kim Jong Il, and after escaping in 1986, they wrote a book exposing his decadent lifestyle. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/dprk/kim-jong-il.htm
I think the military has shit. They're only talking shit to get Jenkin's to squeel on Lil' Kim.

Stuart News editorial: Japan can keep Fischer and Jenkins
The Stuart News (Florida) July 29, 2004 (vile and long subscription process required)

Japan has custody, with vastly different degrees of enthusiasm, of two Americans. One is fugitive chess nut Bobby Fischer, who is in a detention center; the other is former Army Sgt. Charles Jenkins, AWOL in North Korea for 39 years and now in a hospital....

<blah, blah, blah>

...The U.S. military, in a rather pro forma way, is asking for Jenkins to be turned over to U.S. military authorities. Meanwhile, Soga has become a local heroine and the Japanese government would like her to be left in peace with Jenkins and her daughters. While desertion is indubitably a serious matter, the United States is searching for a face-saving way to oblige a good ally and let Jenkins stay.

Meanwhile, Japan detained Bobby Fischer two weeks ago when he arrived in the country with an invalid U.S. passport. Fischer is now fighting a deportation order to the United States, where he is wanted for violating international sanctions against Serbia by playing for the world chess championship there in 1992.

Fischer's crime — playing chess illegally — hardly seems likely to inspire copycats. And, to a layman at least, the reclusive, erratic Fischer, a virulent anti-Semite who applauded 9/11, seems halfway to a successful insanity defense.

Jenkins and Fischer, although hardly our most exemplary specimens, are entitled to claim us as their country, and if they're willing to come back and face the music, we have to take them. But they're not. Thus, our policy should be guided by this question: Why ever would we want them back? We don't.

Official: Japan wants Jenkins' ordeal to end soon
Associated Press / Friday, August 6, 2004
TOKYO - Japan hopes to resolve a potential custody battle with the United States over accused U.S. Army deserter Charles Jenkins soon, an official said Friday, as Jenkins prepared to discuss his legal case with a U.S. military attorney for a second day.

<blah, blah, blah>

Japanese and American officials have refused to disclose details of the meeting, citing his privacy.

Jenkins poised to seek plea bargain
Japan Today, Aug 10, 2004 7:30amJenkins... appears to have expressed intent to seek a plea bargain on his charges as he completed talks with a U.S. military lawyer on Monday, according to a source close to the case.

Alleged US Deserter Jenkins to Enter Plea Bargain, Jiji Says
Bloomberg - Aug 21
Charles Robert Jenkins, accused of defecting to North Korea in 1965, admitted to part of the charges and will enter a plea bargain with the U.S. military, Jiji Press said, citing Japanese government sources it didn't identify.

Jenkins's U.S. military lawyer based in South Korea is expected to visit Japan this month to confirm his client's decision, Jiji said. Conditions for a plea bargain would probably include Jenkins providing information on other alleged U.S. deserters in North Korea, Jiji said.

The Japanese government's view is that if Jenkins enters a plea bargain he will avoid a prison term and will instead face dishonorable discharge or a suspended sentence, the report said.

And who didn't see that coming?

Like I said in another thread:

Bobby Fischer should publicly renounce all ties with North Korea, thereby instilling the belief that he is in some way connected to the NK hierarchy. Plan A follows as previously expressed...

Its the only way to be sure.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.
