Those nasty critters are invading in Japan.

Todays NHK morning news featured the results from a report released last month.
(japanese link: http://www.eic.or.jp/news/?act=view&serial=8003 )

Bluegill and Black Bass are apparently invading Japan and upsetting the Eco-system here.

If you catch one your supposed to NOT THROW BACK.

Does anybody know if they have any natural/native Japanese ground fish that are bigger than bluegill? if you caught a big one you could certainly eat one of them (with butter preferably) but I recall they had lots of bones...
But that was before I came to Japan where they eat all groundfish (small fish).

Last week I noticed hundreds if not thousands of big fish in a river in Kure. Is this a related thing? I thought what the hell kind of fish are those? And this river is nasty, by the way.

not the ones I saw. There were so many of them in the rivers behind shiodome they even mentioned it on TV.

The Japanese may have overfished Japans waters but
they have developed good fishing habits as a result.

The USA is busy overfishing Alaska's waters... with brutal practices that the Japanese havent used for years.

Yeah, these weren't carp. I figured someone would say that so I thought about prefacing it I didn't. Then again I don't even know what a 'sucker' is.

Postby khusam » Wed Aug 04, 2004 11:36 am

They might have been mullet. Mullet are pretty large, live in salt and river-water, and jump like crazy. There`s lots in Tsurumigawa...
