Prison break beer run

Four men escape from the Hawkins County Jail in Rogersville, Tennessee for a beer run.

The escape occurred Thursday night when the cell block doors were left unlocked and a malfunctioning control panel failed to alert prison guards.

The four men walked out of the prison through a fire exit, used a bible to keep the door open so they could get back in, and made a hole in the exercise yard fence. They walked to a local store and bought three 12-packs of beer.

Nobody at the store knew they were inmates since they were wearing civilian clothes that they borrowed from other prisoners. The jail is so crowded that there simply are not enough uniforms for all the inmates and some must use normal civilian clothes.

All four men returned to their cells undetected. Prison guards learned of the incident after they discovered the beer.
