Baby in Me

Postby tokyojoe » Wed Aug 14, 2002 1:38 pm

Pregnancy products spark buy for baby boom

Hundreds of "Baby in Me" products have sold at Takashimaya outlets and over the Internet since going on sale toward the end of June, and plenty of guys are apparently out there buying them, too.

How about some t-shirts reading `Put a baby in you` for the guys? :D

Seating arrangements

Postby GomiGirl » Wed Aug 14, 2002 2:49 pm

Perhaps it may encourage people to actually give up their seats for a pregnant person rather than let them surf the aisle.. how about old people too?

An aside - seeing that I am in the mood - I once gave up my seat for a young guy who had a broken leg and was hobbling up the aisle looking for a "priority seat". Everybody else kept their heads down. Interesting social study... :(

While I'm at it - ever thought of helping people with prams up and down the stairs at train stations? C'mon - proove that manners are not completely dead.

From what I understand, the Japanese concept of helping your elders only applies to those of your own family, although I have seen some of the younger Japanese going out of their way to help some of the oldsters... perhaps you're setting a good example of them?

It is not a matter of a gaijin setting an example - more like one person just helping out another person... Tis but a "village" and all that...

I once gave up my seat on the train for a mother traveling with her two small children. It was obvious she wanted to sit down with them, but I was in the third seat next to the two kids. So I let her have the seat and I moved elsewhere.

It's totally true that the Japanese don't give a damn about the elderly unless they're part of the family. That soto/uchi mentality drives the relative indifference of the Japanese toward the suffering of strangers.

Have had a seat given up for me even though I am not old or pregnant.

Did appreciate it as I much prefer to sit than be frotted.

Unfortunatley, the young man seated next to me used the old "nodding off and feel you up" routine. The man that gave up his seat for me rolled up the newspaper he was reading and thumped the sleepy feelie smack on the head.

I thanked him, he resumed reading, and sleepy feelie guy didnt touch me again.A lot of smiles in that carriage, including me.
