I dont like living alone - in Tokyo

No matter how much freedom I want in deciding to live alone I think we humans are absolutely gregarious and living alone in Tokyo is really lonely.

 Does anybody else have thoughts on this?
 What do you do at home alone?
:?: How is it that all the Japanese living in one room cubby holes can manage?
:?: Why do all Japanese prefer to live alone and Gaijin prefer to live with a roomate?

Speak for yourself. This gaijin prefers to live alone. Most of my friends do to.

If you don't need help with the rent, why would you want a roommate?

Really!!

I'm quite suprised. I dont need any help with the rent at all but I prefer to have someone else to chat with and go out as a default friend. Beit GF or just a Bud.

And to tell you the truth I would prefer a Gaijin.
I have never done it... but could you imagine living with a Japanese you were not romanticaly or fiscaly involved with (venture biz or something together excepted)!
I just think they would offer so little companionship -- except in some special curcumstances.

So if you have never done it, and you are a newbie to Japan, why the sweeping generalizations?

I have friends from the US who live with Japanese nationals and they are both happy with the friendship and the living situation.

If you cant communicate, then there is by default little communication, I will grant you that.

I've been living alone for the last 12 years or so, and find it pretty comfortable. My space, my stuff - all mine!

Of course, that's changing in a couple weeks... :D

Skankster, don't you think having a roommate makes it harder to get laid?

Not in my case. My place is pretty big. Both rooms are completely the other side of the building.
I moved in here with this in mind.

Sharing a single room in a flat, however, would be ABSOLUTE HELL.

having a girlfriend here was ok but also restrictive due to her personality (and mine perhaps) but with a roomate sometimes competing to see who can get the loudest screams from his GF is fun.
