NJR: Harold and Kumar Go To WhiteCastle

Postby Big Booger » Mon Aug 16, 2004 10:29 pm

An asian related theme seeing as the main actors are Asian and Indian.

Synopsis:
Two twenty-something stoner roommates -- one a Korean American investment banker; the other an Indian American medical school candidate -- go through a life changing journey, as they spend a night roaming the state of New Jersey in search of White Castle hamburgers.

For what it is, a stoner, road-trip comedy, it's getting great reviews...

Kinda reminds me of an interview with Denzel Washington after he won his Oscar. A reporter asked him when he thought people would start saying, "an actor won the Oscar" instead of "a black actor won the Oscar." Denzel replied, "why don't you be the first?" :)

Those two paragraphs strike me as slightly contradictory.

Following Denzel's logic, you should want to see the film because it's a good film...not because it's a film featuring minorities that doesn't make a big deal about being a "minority" film.

That's not really how I meant it. If I'd heard it was a crap movie, I'd have no interest in seeing it. (My "this alone" statement should've been qualified.) I was initially put off by the title (it sounded too dumb to me), but the trailer's really good.

Oh Doogie, how far hast thou fallen? :spin:
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

On the surface this movie looked to be placed in the never watch me category along with that stupid airplane movie with Snoop Dogg...

But it's one I plan to see as soon as it comes out on DVD.

Unlike Soul Plane, H&KGTWC is worth watching. It could've been funnier, but it's still decent. Neil Patrick Harris totally steals the movie, playing himself as a kind of "anti-Doogie Howser."

He's made a career out of playing "anti-Doogie Howser" roles.

True, but never when playing himself, cracking on being Doogie Howser.

They movie was extremely good for a typical stoner flick, and it didn't even bother me that it was just an extended commercial for a struggling fast-food chain, heh.
