Fischer said to have Filipino family; RP asylum sought
Philippine Daily Inquirer, Aug 16
BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, Philippines -- Filipino chess grandmaster Eugene Torre has asked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to grant American grandmaster Bobby Fischer asylum in the Philippines, saying that Fischer had a family here.
"I spoke to (First Gentleman Jose Miguel) Arroyo and I asked him to raise the possibility of Bobby's asylum here. There is a good reason. He has a wife and child here. He wanted them out of the limelight because he was afraid the US might try to get to him through his (Filipino) family, ...

This is true. When he was 59, he linked up with a 19 year old Filipina of Chinese heritage. Part of the Chinese diaspora in Manila. They have a kid, around 2 or 3 now. She is a looker! Damn that Bobby!

Anyone post her photo?

But this new tack attack won't work. Bobby is in detention for 57 more days, then shipped out to Homeland USAville, in handcuffs. Maybe accompanied by US marshalls.

A trade off for Jenkins who will get a slap on the wrists by the US and then proceed to become a Japanese TV personality.

A form of justice for Japanese nationals to support Koizumi's failing ratings and sweep the LDP scandals and lies under the carpet!

I agree entirely. I've been working on this for the Japanese media for the past few days and the Mainichi is the only media body making this point in the vernacular (most other publications are basically ignoring the story because Fischer is not that well known, which was why he was here in the first place).
Personally, I think Fischer is a vile and abhorrent man, though undoubtedly a genius.
But, as his supporters point out, it's not his character that should be brought before the law.
He is guilty of playing chess and being a right crackpot, but he doesn't deserve the treatment he is getting at the hands of Japanese and US authorities at the moment.
His treatment when compared with that being lavished on Jenkins -- a fugitive from a far more serious crime than anything Fischer has done -- is a disgrace.

Bobby Fischer plans to marry Japanese woman

MDN, Aug 16
Former world chess champion Bobby Fischer, who remains detained in Japan facing deportation for using a passport U.S. officials say is invalid, has decided to marry a Japanese woman, his lawyer said Monday.
Fisher reportedly decided to marry Miyoko Watai, the acting head of the Japan Chess Association, his lawyer Masako Suzuki said. Watai is a former Japanese women's chess champion.
Suzuki reportedly said Watai and Fischer had been living together since 2000, but had now decided to take the steps to legalize their marriage.

And how the hell can he get married in jail without any ID or visa?!

Intention to marry
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5720011/

A separate statement from Suzuki also said Fischer and Japan Chess Association President Miyoko Watai had signed marriage papers that would be submitted later on Monday.

It was unclear whether Japanese officials would accept the marriage application. A Tokyo ward official, Yoshihisa Yabe, said a person in Fischer's situation would have to either provide a valid U.S. passport or a U.S. government document confirming his citizenship's validity in order to get married in Japan.

It was also not immediately clear whether marriage to a Japanese citizen would affect attempts to deport him to the United States.

Suzuki said Fischer and Watai had been living together since 2000.

These advisors and lawyers are so.....dumb. You cannot just try to wiggle out of deportation by saying you are going to marry a Japanese national! First of all, you can't marry in detention. You can't marry in jail. and the marriage will be declared void, it is obviously a marriage of conbini, er, convenience. This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid, it's insane.

I am surprised the stupid but pretty lawyer is going this route. In the minds of the Japanese officials, this is just one more nail in BF's coffin.

QUOTE: It was not immediately clear if he would be allowed to marry while in detention, or whether marriage to a Japanese national would enable him to avoid deportation.

HEHE: It is very clear. It is unallowable. And even if allowed, it won't stop him being deported. But if married, he will be allowed to come back and rejoin his wife later, in 10 years.

NOTA BENE: Just "signing" marriage papers does not a marriage make. Had they been married before all this, maybe she could get him out on spousal rights. But this charade is laffable. KEystone Kops stupid!

Masako needs to get her head examined. Miss Watai needs help, too.

But I admire their pluck and their courage. They are not afraid. COOL!

Finally Fischer's latest involvement with a Chinese woman: Justine Ong from the Philippines. Fischer selected Ong from several candidates, who were willing to carry Fischer's child. The child, Jinky Ong, was born in the spring of 2001. Fischer supports mother and child and visits them every two month.

Fischer

Postby Marvin Feltcher » Tue Aug 17, 2004 10:52 am

You probably didnt follow him as I did as a kid!

I adored him as a kid, too.
But I think he's horrible now mainly because he openly advocates the mass slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people. Listen to some of the radio interviews he's given in the Philippines http://home.att.ne.jp/moon/fischer/
Before hearing these, I thought he'd just become a kook. But he doesn't seem particularly crazy, which makes what he says all the more chillingly frightening.
That doesn't mean I don't feel sorry for his current plight, though.
Who is your hero!?

The letter said Fischer should be allowed "to seek asylum in a country of his preference like the Philippines, where he is reported to have a wife and a child."

Oh dear, not that one again. A tired old argument that has been used by thousands of 'illegals' in Japan for decades prior to getting booted out. It doesn't work. The immigration and the courts have rejected this so called deprivation of 'human' rights many times.

Ex-Chess Champ Fischer's Marriage Plans Hit Snag
Reuters - Aug 19
TOKYO (Reuters)
"I am a pawn, but in chess there is such a thing as pawn promotion, where a pawn can become a queen," soft-spoken Miyoko Watai, 59, told a news conference.
"He is my king and I want to become his queen so we can join together and win."
Image<--....Watai, a four-time Japan women's chess champion, says Fischer has spent most of his time in Japan since 2000 and they have lived together.
She said their happy, quiet life together had been ruined by Fischer's detention.
"I want to become legally married to get back our former life. This is to protect our way of life," Watai said at the news conference. Despite the hurdles, she said she was determined to become Fischer's wife.
The two met in 1973 when Fischer visited Japan and played a match with Watai.
Watai said she was not worried about a report by a Philippine newspaper on Monday quoting a local chess grandmaster as saying Fischer had a Filipino wife and a child living there.
"Bobby has said he has never been married until now, so I don't think there is a problem," Watai said. ...

Fiancee says Fischer proposed years ago
(By Marvin Feltcher, Mainichi Daily News, Aug. 1, 2004)
... Watai refused to disclose exactly when the proposal was made, but it appears to have been some time between Fischer's controversial 1992 rematch in Yugoslavia with Boris Spassky and February 2000, when she says the pair started living together in her Tokyo home.
She said she became besotted with Fischer after having been invited to watch him take on Spassky, and that he had been the first to suggest marriage, but they lived together instead and only decided to make their relationship formal after the chess grandmaster was arrested at Narita Airport on July 13....
...She scoffed at reports Fischer has a daughter called Jinky Ong in the Philippines, saying they were "a lie."
Watai said reports had the girl being born in August 2000, which would have made it impossible for Bobby to be the father as he was with her in Tokyo in February of that year.
Reports on the child, however, said she was born in the spring of 2001 and there remains a possibility that Fischer may indeed be her father.

Miss Watai is so full of BS its funny. Look, if they were really thinking of getting married, they would have done in the last four years, rather than having Booby-san go on visa runs every 3 months to see his Manila Chinese wife.

And she is an old obasan and Bobby likes young girls, preferably 21 or so. read the google of his life.

Miss Watai is not even a good liar. She is dumb.

OK, re-thinking the plan of action. My considered legal opinion is that Bobby Fischer should publicly renounce all ties with North Korea, thereby instilling the belief that he is in some way connected to the NK hierarchy. Plan A follows as previously expressed in the posts above.
