Associated Press / Aug 23
HONG KONG -
She needs to be coddled with sweet talk and pampered with gifts, but you'll never see her in the flesh, says a Hong Kong company that's developing a "virtual girlfriend" for new cell phones with video capability.
Artificial Life Inc.'s electronic love interest will appear as an animated figure on a telephone screen. But she'll require a lot of attention, involving virtual flowers and diamondsl ...

All you need is a fat bank account, no skills needed to win her approval and advance the "relationship".

Yup, definitely reminds me of my friend's various HK girlfriends...

The game doesn't allow interactions of a sexual nature, Fong said, calling it "suitable for all ages." The company hopes to develop a virtual boyfriend for women by early next year.

you can`t use money, you have to use time. when you use time you will lose money. that`s why it will lead to a state of...emergency!
why do they tell us it`s suitable for all ages? If it`s suitable for all ages it is suitable for a whole life. Possibly nothing is static in a life. If it was I would be very unhappy with my life. Aren`t we all happy? Yes we are! :D

According to the BBC, she's going to be a high-maintenence golddigger:
All virtual girls will look the same - but each girl will behave differently - depending on how much money is spent on her.

On top of a general subscription, men will be charged a fee to buy flowers and gifts for the virtual girlfriend.

In return, she will introduce them to different aspects of her life, like letting them meet her female friends - also electronic images.

If players neglect her, she will refuse to speak.

The company says the amount of money players will have to spend has yet to be determined.

But unlike other computer games, it seems that cash, not skill, will enable players to climb the different levels in the game.

Spending real money or virtual flowers.
Well, whoever invented this concept is intelligent, and whoever uses it is stupid.

Virtual pimping.... and the girl isn't even real!

yes it can... soon enough, there may be competitions and blogs rating the best couples and role playing moments... it only gets sadder, like WOW.
