Tokyo gigs - Buying tickets

Postby chored » Thu Aug 26, 2004 7:38 pm

I'm going to Tokyo in late September and just found out Melt Banana will be playing at the Shimokitazawa Shelter on the 25th. I really want to go, but don't really know how I'm going to get tickets for it. Does anyone know where I can get tickets for this when I'm in Tokyo? My Japanese is pretty poor, I only really know the basics but I think I could struggle to buy 2 tickets in person.

How popular are Melt Banana in Tokyo? I've read that the venue has a capacity of around 200, I'm thinking it could be sold out by the time we get to Japan (I arrive on the 24th). Is there any way to buy tickets for gigs over the internet and get the tickets delivered to Scotland? I'm guessing not.

If anyone knows the answer to any of my questions, or has pointers of where to get tickets for other bands while I'm out there, or find out about who's playing where I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of them but you gotta bribe someone in Shimokita to get you tix and either pay them to send them to you or have them waiting at your hotel.

Don't happen to know anyone who would accept such a bribe? :)

Check this for show listings: http://www.geocities.com/mrcraige/

I think it gets updated once a month.

As for Shelter, I can check Pia to see if they sell in advance. The place is tiny, I mean tiny. Send me a PM and I'll let you know. Hell, I might be interested in going myself, depending on the day.

Just seen on the Shelter website that they may pull ticket shop sales the day before your the gig so if you arrive on the afternoon of the 24th, you'll be too late for a Pia. If you get in early, you could be OK but it will be tight because there is nothing in Narita.
I would try the other three options if you want to be certain.

Hi, thanks for your help. I think my flight gets into Narita at 11am on the 24th, so probably pushing it a bit to get to a ticket shop then.

if you know enough japanese, go to a lawson convenience store when you arrive and search for and buy the tickets using the loppi computer in the shop. or turn up really early to shelter and hope there are tickets left.
or if anyone here is going, they could but tickets for you and meet you before the show..

The Pia website confirms that tickets will not be on sale now on the day before the Shelter gig on the 25th. That will likely apply to convenience store sales too.
If you can't find somebody to get them beforehand, I'd send an email to Melt Banana. Even if the venue is full, they probably won't have more than half the crowd coming for them so that's only 100 bodies. I'm pretty sure they would pay attention to a foreigner wanting to come (they tend to sell more merchandise to non-Japanese). Ask them to leave a ticket at the door until a certain time. That way, if you don't turn up, someone else can still buy it.

Sounds like an outstanding gig! Fortunately, MB come to SF at least twice a year it seems.

But both KK Null and MB in a single night? Hell yeah!
