"Gohatto" (1999)

In 1860 Japan, a young, newly-inducted samurai trained to fight against insurgent rebels steals the hearts of many of the his fellow warriors. People have called this a story of homosexual repression, but really there doesn't appear to be much repression at all. Samurai talk freely about men loving other men, and make all sorts of intimations about some samurai being lovers.

Duhhhhhh, I've seen "Gohatto" but samurai-era Japanese is tough without subtitles. Basically as long as the samurai talk about eating and fornication, I understand. The gay aspects of the film went right over my head except for the open displays of affection, meh.
