funny question about US embassies

Postby devicenull » Tue Aug 31, 2004 7:51 am

never actually bothered going to one. I have been in Chinese and Japanese embassies more than I have an american one. So, now I have a stupid question. Say, a certain someone is going to be in beijing for another day and certain someone is out of money... possible to crash at the embassy for a few hours? esp if you happen to have a friend who's parents work there?

Anything is possible.
But in Japan, the kind people at the US Embassy have yelled at me on a hot 33C day last July for "loitering" claiming anti-terror security. Their standard friendly phrase they repeated many times over the years to me is:
"We're here for diplomacy, not tourism."

Fun folks! :P

However, I suspect on "hostile" soil like China they would be more flexible.

Hey, I watch a lot of movies, so I know a LOT about how to turn Embassy staff to your favor in times of trouble.

Basically, when you need to kill a few hours in the comfort and safety of the embassy, all you need to do is dab some ketchup on the front of your shirt and run down towards the embassy gates shouting "I'm an American! I'm an American" while waving your passport around above your head.

Once you get inside, tell them that you're being "framed for a crime you didn't commit". They may even let you stay in the secret 'cone of silence' room.

Consult: Red Corner (1997), Richard Gere for further helpful information.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

i dont want to be hiding in exile for a crime that never happened. I just want to get inside, sleep on a couch and claim that as an american i claim the couch for the good of the public (me).

happy though, i did way too much shit today. visa will be mine by friday morning, have my train tickets, and have my plane ticket. gotta love it, 1624kuai (less than $200) for a one way direct flight from shanghai to nagoya :)

train ticket was only 150kuai (about $18 )... but, it is 11 hours and the only train is a hard seater... so... yea... that will be "fun". im gonna steal the pillow from the hotel or something.

Wait a minute, in an earlier thread you said that you were "taking the ferry from Shanghai instead of flying". ???
You're just getting here by hook or by crook aren't you? Good on you lad. :D

well... the ferry thing kinda fell through. they changed the date for no apparant reason and cancelled my reservation. seeing as it would have been about $180 after tax, and then another 40ish for the train in japan... $196 for a direct flight seemed the wise choice (also one that buys me more time here)
