The longer I stay in Japan the more I realize that US cars are crap.

periodically, however, I do see Japanese driving around in American Cars.

Besides an innovative model or two like the PT Cruiser that my folks have at home. Designwise they are ugly.

Quality Engineering wise they suck - ex: Corvette Worse quality for an automobile EVER for 30+ years running.

Too big for Japans streets. Period.

But I just wonder, is there anybody else out there like me who cannot see the point of owning an american car in Japan?

A few years ago I went home and both of my sisters had Dodge Voyagers. The number one selling mini-van in North America. For some reason my wife really liked it, and when we came back. She really wanted to get one. I was keen on the Mazda MPV. But I new the dealer here in town, he also owned the radio station I did a show at, and he did give me a pretty good deal with a lot of extras, but... what a nightmare it has been. The car has been recalled four times, for fairly major repairs. I wanted to get an engine starter something you really need up here in Aomori. No can do, they don't make them for imported cars, or so I was told. It has just been one hassle aftr another. Now the dealer has been great, but if I had to do it all over again, I would only buy Japanese, while living in Japan.

Same experience.

I had a non-Japanese motorcycle here. I bought it new.
There was a dealer buttttttt... Because they spoke no english gthey could not get parts from other countries when the manufacturers (Italy) distributers were late (up to 6 mo at a time!!).

Henceforth I dont reccomend non-Japanese motorbikes especially.
