S. Korean golfers flock to Japan
--Golf frenzy at home makes it much cheaper to play there --
SEPT 4, 2004 / NY TIMES via Straits TimesTOKYO -... Japanese golf courses - in dire straits for more than a decade - are going all out to attract South Koreans seeking cheaper prices and room to swing their irons.
Ironically, green fees at golf courses in Japan used to be among the world's highest. But now, they are offering affordable golf package tours and throwing in perks that include dips at hot springs....
Greens fees are about 20,000 yen (S$310) in South Korea, while struggling golf clubs in Japan are slashing prices to below 10,000 yen.
