Probably because they're releasing a new album ("Damage") at the end of this month the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is going to tour Japan with The Kills.
Even if 6500yens is kind of steep it still beats Fuji Rock ANyday.

Both bands are good but 6500 is too much. Especially in Tokyo where they play Shibuya Ax. A terrible venue. You have to be damn good to make it work there.
Better to catch them on other tour dates - Nagoya and Fukuoka are good places. I've never been to the Yokohama or Hiroshima venues.

You don't consider Blues Explosion damn good? I met Jon Spencer before a Pussy Galore Show in Berkeley. He put my friend and I on the guest list when we told him we drove from all the way from Utah. I've seen Pussy Galore twice and Blues Explosion twice. I almost always prefer the older stuff and this is no exception but still, Blues Explosion is a damn good band, aren't they?

I'm assuming that Mulboyne is saying is that the Shibuya Ax is a "terrible venue" with 7 foot basement ceilings, a zillion pillars in a basement setting with obscured sightlines, and 100%-concrete sound environment without any seating, ventilation or valid fire exits. In other words, a TYPICAL Tokyo venue.

(Why isn't there the death penalty for Japanese building inspectors who NEVER do their job?)

Actually, it is very open and with high ceilings. The problem is the sound; it dies. The building wasn't designed with any sort of thought as to how sound travels from the stage outward.

I wouldn't pay 6500 yen to see the Blues Explosion there either.

Give me a full grown woman!

Is Ax that bad? With no seating (sorry Taro) there is no reason to not be front and centre. JSBX sound messy live anyway :D

You know, the thing about Pussy Galore was that their records sounded really cacophonous but really the sound was a product of intense control and live it was really amazing how tight they were, especially since they were considered a 'noise' band. I'm not as familar with Blues Explosion but I remember them being really very tight and extremely exciting live. He had a Theremin blasting through a superfuzz bigmuff and 'whew' was it loud! "Blues Explosion! Blues Explosion!" Yeah, that was intense, but not as intense as Pussy Galore with their classic 'Dial M for Motherfucker' line-up! I do think 6500 is too steep though.

Saw Blues Explosion three times and it blew my ears away.
Probably the best lives i'v been to. 6500 yens is kind of expensive especially if its in a weak place so 'im still wondering if i'll go or not.
I'll have to check their last album before making up my mind.
For the live experience on record check out Controversial Negro, i think it was only released in Japan.

You bunch of pussies! Break out a crowbar and see this band - especially if you never have before. Jon Spencer is the best front man since Elvis and he will give you your money's worth. If you pay more, he will work his ass off even harder and turn up the Theremin even louder! 8O

It will never get cheaper to see Blues Explosion in Japan, so get your ass down there no matter venue - he will destroy it anyway, so it does not matter!. Shake your fist, shake your ass, if not - for God's sake - shake S O M E T H I N G and see this show.

Note: Jon Spencer is possessed by Satan, channels Iggy and loves the ROCK. You gotta love 'dat!
