Hey Rob, I honestly think you will find that most YDs from the last few years either dont know who you are or dont care. Theres no big conspiracy against you, im sure there are a few who like your stuff also. I think the same goes for FG in general. I think once every 6 months there is a cross forum thread and a few people voice old or new opinions and thats about it. Generally we stick to our side of cyber space and you stick to yours. No real hatred or vendettas, after all its only the internet :?

Anyway, ive seen a few interesting posts so i may stick around a bit.

Cheers

This topic is an outright assault on the FG forum by the Young Dudes forum to divide and conquer. Look at all the infighting and bickering this post has created. United we Stand, Divided we Fall!

Not really, Akisa.

Just think of FG & YD as two different bars/pubs. Some regulars won't ever stray from their 'local' but others might like to go to both. As in all bars, you'll have a range of patrons, from the cool, laid-back and funny to the dorks, geeks and tossers. Both forums seem to have their share. Anyone keen for advice on Japan would be wise to post on both boards.

Im a regular poster on YD (different nick). I dont have anything against FG, and I lurk on it occasionaly. Recently I have even posted a few times. I think it has some ok stuff on it, nothing wrong at all. I prefer YD as it suits my interests more, but that is not a slag on this site at all. As someone said, its just like a different bar. Personally, its nice to have a different place to come check out sometimes.

I think a little cross-site socializing never hurts. It was good to see gomi girl post over there. Would be nice if she (or any of you other guys except skanster) came and popped in every so often to say something.

RobPongi Hey!

Postby Cobra » Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:49 am

Hi Rob Pongi,

first of all I would like to say I have been a fan of yours for quite a long time. Often check your site out and have my buddies check it out.
I cannot understand why people put shit on you. Perhaps its when a Gaijin does well in Japan? its a mystery to me! jelousy! anyhow keep up the good work.
actually I had a bit of a debate with a guy at JAPANic about comedy and talent. He seems to think you suck. But hey I guess everyone is entilted to his opinion. Also some of the pricks at YD`s seem to think so too. This is cool but again the constant put down makes you wonder!

Cobra, we are not pricks at YD. As Im sure there are not pricks here (well, except Skankster...I think we agree on that) It just comes down to taste. You like Robs stuff, I dont . Most people here like Robs stuff, Most people at YDs dont. Taste in comedy is like taste in music. It changes between different groups.

Also, there is no constant put down of Rob on the board. Like I said before, most of the time we couldnt care less what robs up to, if someone posts a link to his page (which probably happens once every 3-4 months) some of us comment, most of us dont.

I think that everyone needs to stop thinking there is some kind of vendetta against FG or RP, cos there just isnt one.

Weird....

People love Rob here,
but don't over there...yet they still watch.

Logically, it doesn't make sense to me, not that I totally discount your opinion, but I think it's more of a group mentality, rather than individual taste. Like, are you tellin' me that all YDs like the same music? If so, I would find that totally odd and probably totally wrong.

I don't think musical taste changes between groups, in general. In age range, then yes, I may agree with that.

Does YD skew younger, ya think? Newer to Japan, ya think? I dunno....but that may make more sense.

Because we are not close minded. When Robs link was put up im sure most YDs who commented on the thread went to check it out and make there own decision. I know myself that I have looked at his web site about 3 times since the thread has started. First I checked to see if it had got better, and it hadnt, then you logged on and said it was great, so I checked his site again to see if I had missed something, but still I didnt like it.

Im not saying that we all like the same music, its an analogy just to indicate that the long termers on the board have alot of simular prefferences in many things. Thats why we congregate there.

People love Rob here,
but don't over there...yet they still watch.

So all people here love rob pongi? Yet its unbelievable that all people in YDs dislike rob pongi....go figure. Im not saying its exclusive, but im saying that generally speaking we dont like it.

Maybe YD has a younger profile, i dunno, I think the average age is about 25, but personally I thought a Younger demographic may have suited Rob Pongis style. I think its fairly immature both visually and conceptually, i havent seen the humor develop as it still seems just one level above slapstick. Either way everone is entitled to their opinion. Just accept the fact that in General most people at YD dont seem to like it.

But Rob, I think I've watched every vid on your site at least once, and you strike me as a person who celebrates the good things about Japan like partying, cool bands and sexy chicks and laughs at the funny things like goof-ball English, penis festivals and people drunk off their gourds. It's not like you're moping around like some bitter or homesick foreigner. So I don't really get what you mean about the 'darkside'. You're all about the fun stuff, aren't you?

Can we get a Pongi in a school uniform skit? Both danshi and joshi would be hilarious.. You could be a new half???

As for those over at young dudes, they actually take you seriously and that IS pathetic. :D Comedy here is fucked.. period.

And for you to do it in Engrish and mock this culture and live it up is amazing. I am surprised you have yet to make it onto J-TV. You'd think they eat up a goofy gaijin character poking fun at the bureaucratic hodge podge here...

Old timers might not laugh, but you'd be a definite success among the 20-30 age group.

And you hit it on the fucking head, you can't please everyone.. but think of it this way, they had to watch your videos to complain about it.

What would be really fucked is if you were totally ignored.. that would be harsher than being chastised or ridiculed.. or whatever the hell you want to call what they are saying over there...

I'd offer any of those fuckers a chance to show you up... and if not, then I'd tell them to piss off.

:D

Is any of your comedy scripted or is it all on the fly?

Hey AK,
Here's the scoop. Someone stole a personal pic from my site from my personal archives and altered it in Photoshop (painting in remarks in Japanese I can't understand) - then reposted it on the site without my permission. No one on that forum would like this done to them, for sure. The post was deleted.

I did send the guy a mail to cease and desist posting doctored photos of me on the site. It's my right to do that, as a CYA measure at the very least. I would've asked him nicely first, but he had been flaming me quite severely prior to that. A cease and desist is no big deal, as long as you simply stop doing what you did.

Bottom line: I don't like people breakin' into my website, taking a photo, altering it in a defamatory way and then electronically republishing it. It's against the law and is just plain mean spirited. Again, it's the act of going into my site and taking stuff from there which makes me most upset - which I believe is akin to someone coming into your home and ripping you off.

But I'm choosing to move on. I've got a lot of things to do this week and I can't really be bothered.
