Postby creztor » Mon Sep 13, 2004 11:22 am

Try a 1970' thrift store. :-) That was a joke,

I never got why people think Japanese fashion is cool. The clothes just look like 1970's stuff, cheap looking, with a lot of frills like you might see in a Alabama trailer park. Where are all these fashionable Japanese women everyone keeps talking about?

You might try this site: http://japanesestreets.com/

The message board might be some help, and I think he has a 'fashion links' page..

There are plenty of online stores selling Japanese fashion---none that I know that will be much use to you in the Real World. Most online stores (if not all) will not ship overseas and require Japanese-issued credit cards. Additional problems include website interfaces of Japanese online stores are <SURPRISE> in Japanese. Also the size of clothes are impossibilly small and cut narrow, buttless and boobless (that is, US women's size 12 is considered freakozoid sumo size and Japanese clothes for ALIENS are the most expensive in solar system).

Have you tried:
Just making your own following the themes of "Japanese Streets" http://www.japanesestreets.com/

Yahoo Japan auctions, Kinokuya USA site?

Follow all the links at this site and report back what you find.

Of course the best in Japanese fashion is right here on the FG Forum. :P

For women's clothes, just get lots of oversized tank tops (say three or four) in different colours and put them all on at the same time for the layered effect. Next find a knee length different patterned skirt (polyester preferred) that is perhaps striped on the bias or even with polkadots. Wear the skirt over a pair of black demin jeans.

Shoes, make sure you have lacey sockets in white or pink. a pair of low rise court pumps in red, yellow or silver.

fake nails with diamonte nail art is essential.

Make sure you have a large handbag that contains:
A4 sized mirror
all your makeup
4 tubes of mascara
hairspray
spare tank tops
spare lacey sockets
small mickey mouse face towel
mobile phone
diary
more tank tops
more lacey sockets
train passes
hairbrush

Do all of these things and you will be up to the second in the average japanese female fashion.

Now for other types of fashion - eg the ethnic look go to a store specialising in clothes from either thailand, nepal or similar. Buy everything in the store and wear them all at the same time with sandles.

gangaro - gyaru fashion. Dye your hair until it is like straw - dark grey/purple was the popular colour in Yoyogi yesterday. Dark skin and bright floral jinbe.

Sorry, I can't go on.

You say women's/ladies fashion rather than girl's fashion.
Can you give an idea of what brands/fashions you might mean? Burberry Blue Label is Japan-only and still popular after being introduced three years ago. The Koshino clan (Hiroko, Michiko, Junko) are at the couture end and all have their own sites.
At the teenage end of the scale, retailers like Egoist, Moon Blue and Cecil McBee in 109 buy designs from small apparel companies. Online, you can see a lot of their inventory on bidders.co.jp - one example of their page is Here. Girls from out of town often buy on-line if they can't get to the cities. But Taro's advice is right - non-Japanese issue credit cards and overseas delivery are often not on the menu.
And how much do you want to buy? Bulk orders will go down much better and the apparel companies will be cheaper to buy from. Online, some of the apparel company offerings are on sites like This. It is mainly a retail site but you get the apparel company names there as well as the retailers. Even cheaper, go straight to the factories in Korea and China who sell copies about five minutes are finishing the order.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ok I did do a bit of searching before I came and posted this question, so most of those sites mentioned in the first few posts I had found, browsed over but wasnt too impressed/satisfied. Mabye Im picky :) Anyway I guess I did mean trendy as in teens to 20 fashion area for girls, sorry about the ladies comment. I am interested in bulk but there are some items I would only prefer to buy in small bulk (5 - 15 pcs) etc. Ive found a few online japanese shops but to me they werent very 'trendy'. The last post with link to the auction site and screenshots there seemed much more fashionable than any online japanese only sites I had found. From what Ive searched and found so far I think there would be money in this for people who are currently living in japan and are prepared to ship magazines, clothes and other fashion accessories overseas. I am in Taiwan and there are many Taiwanese people and small businesses who make a living doing this, getting their contacts/friends in Japan to ship over after a customer makes an order with them. Im going to Fukuoka in about a week to visit a friend then we are going to Tokyo so I'll be doing my best then to get some contacts etc. I appreciate everyones reply to this and if I do find any GOOD english/we will ship overseas sites will post back here.

When in NYC, please check out my sister's store. It's uber-hip and has been featured in NY Time Out, Elle, Vogue and Mirabella. She knows all the hip designers and sells stuff 1/4 out of season, but if it's the latest and greatest NYC designers have to offer check it out:

http://www.findoutlet.com/index.html

Their online store is not up yet, but she's working on it. I will let her know about the demand for J-fashion goods, maybe she can incorporate that into her new west coast store and online catalog.

I just stumbled across this written by Coco [[Hi Coco!]]] over at Metroblogs. Just follow the urls and check what you interests you since it's all taihen trendy. Many of the stores have online shops, one in particular, "Peach John, is HUGE in catalog sales. If you set up a regular JAPANESE cash transfer account with an online interface you could order (without a Japanese credit card). .

Shibuya 109 is probably the most popular fashion complex in Japan.
http://www.shibuya109.jp/

Shibuya 109 building is the symbol of Shibuya district and Japanese girl's culture. From 13 to 30, girls go there to shop new, hip and not-so-expensive clothes, shoes and et al. New fashion trend is always started from this big tube. Ko-gal, Ganguro-gal, loose socks, big platform boots, surfer fashion, B-kei fashion (hip hop flavored style), hair extension, Samantha Thavasa handbags and etc etc. Only one problem is there is no size variation. Everytime I try something on, I feel my body is too big.
Well, those are popular shops in 109 and my favorite shops list. All Japanese contents, sorry.

* Size availability:
Cloth- Japanese: S-M, US: XS-S, EU:36-38
Shoe- Japanese:22.5cm-24.5cm, US:5-7, EU:35-38)

R&E

Great shoe and sandal.

Esperanza
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/esperanza/main.html
Mother of big platform shoes.

LB-03
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/lb_03/main.html
Inspired by Hip Hop/R&B artists like. I go there to get dangling earrings sometimes.

Shoop
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/shoop/main.html
Compare to LB-03, Shoop is little bit "reasonable". More revealing clothes.

Takaraya
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/takaraya/main.html
inexpensive club clothing and dress. For me, Tanktop and stage clothes place.

Cecil McBee
From office clothing to punk, club or date clothing. Wide selection. The place everybody goes.

Sword Fish
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/swordfish/main.html
Not for teenagers, for over 20. Cool and trendy. It is becoming popular for ex-Kogals lately.

Navana
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/navana/main.html
Hair extension and lady's wear.

Peach John
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/peach_john/main.html
Japanese "Victoria's Secret". Wide selection and wide availability for a 109 tenant.

Pinky girl
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/pinkygirls/main.html
Barbie fashion. Very girly, very lovely. pink, pink, pink!

Material Girl
http://www.shibuya109.jp/shops/material/main.html
Pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki produced. popular, fashionable, cool but expensive! I can't afford to buy 5900yen tank.

I love their jeans! better figure than seven or paper denim&cloth. I know 10000yen is kinda too much for one pair though. still love it.

RE:Online shops selling Japanese Clothing

Postby ~g~ » Tue Oct 12, 2004 9:56 pm

Dear All,

Im posting up this message in regard to Online Shops selling Japanese Clothing. For the past few months i have been researching on Japanese clothing as i will be opening a site. I currently live in Japan and have long realised that Tokyo for such an international metropolitan, there is little local products offered online for gaijins. Im writing in hopes to receive replies or anyones opinion on an english based website selling Japanese Street Clothing. Further more, for anyone that might not live currently in Japan, im curious as to how big of a market there might be for japanese street fashion in western countries.

Best Regards

Maybe too late to be of interest/assistance but I came across the Coromo Inc. English site
coromo, inc. intends to build comprehensive databases for Japanese companies and other organizations involved in the fashion business.

coromo, inc. intends to provide information about events, shops, and streets in Japan with static and dynamic images, and create a database of such information.

coromo, inc. intends to promote communication among those engaged in the fashion business in and outside Japan through its web site and actual events sponsored by the company.
