Ibaraki's Arsenic rice SAFE. Government says! Ha!

Postby Bongo » Fri Sep 17, 2004 1:13 pm

Prefectural government officials said an organoarsenic compound was detected in rice harvested in an area of Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture. The area is believed to have been contaminated by toxic gas produced by the now defunct Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.

The government anounces it is safe to eat, then tells farmers to withold it from the market place!

Arsenic, schmarsenic.
How about the fact that even today Japan has no rules about coating their precious polished white rice with talcum powder to make it look whiter and to keep it fresher? Talcum is mined along with asbestos and frequently talcum is tainted .

And now with all this rice they supposedly don't even have to wash prior to cooking (Musen-Mae), looks like they can keep their doctors in the lush lifestyles they are accustomed to.

Do they even both to test agricultural land for dioxin, heavy metals or other carcinogenic chemicals? Judging from the number of rice fields located next to auto wreckers, incinerators, and heavy industry, I have my doubts. :?

Maybe they should use that in a new marketing slogan. "Now fortified with non-essential irons and minerals."
