I am so going to Chiba on the 21st, I will be the envy of all my game playing friends back in America. It is surprisingly cheap, 1700 yen or so. Anyone else?
But I did go to the one last spring. Here's a tip: if you are going with anyone else, STAY TOGETHER. The convention center is huge, and it'll be packed. Oh, and collect a lot of goodies to sell on eBay.. I made several hundred bucks off of stuff I got for free when I came back.
Crispy, you seem to be the man in the know! Do you have nay idea where I can get my hands on a mod chip for a PS2. After the summer vacation, my son really wants to buy and play US PS2 games. Other than buying a US PS2 model, I found on the net a lot of companies selling mod chips. Now I know they may be a little illegal, but I'm sure there must be lots of Japanese out there who want to play other types of games. Any ideas, or do I have to start to watch Ebay auctions for a used US PS2. Thanks for the help.
Mod chip for PS2? I can't recommend any. Since Sony has been cracking down on all the big mod chip ventures, only the shady backdoor deals are left. I recommend you buy another PS2 like I did. I had been following the mod chip thing for over a year and I saw no sign that the situation would ever improve. As for Japanese wanting US games, that is not very likely, since often the US version often is re-released in Japan.
There's plenty of legit places to get PS2 mod chips these days, and a growing variety of different chips as well. Lik-sang.com is probably your best bet, as they're big and well trusted. Just do your research first, since most chips will only work on certain PS2 models, have different features, and varying levels of installation difficulty.
