Keitei Assistance Required

Postby aquamarine » Wed Sep 22, 2004 12:13 am

More like requested, but you get the hint. So I got sick and frickin tired of my silly little pre-paid phone from Vodafone (Sanyo J-SA06) and decided to take the plunge and sign up on a contract. Now I'm the proud owner of a Sanyo V401SA, quite a nifty little fone that slides, rather than flips. It's not bad at all in my opinion and already beats the snot out of my SA06 as far as sound quality goes.

Now that being said, it has a 1.3mp camera built into it. That's great... yahoo... but it doesn't have a SD card slot so I cannot tranfer my pictures directly onto my computer. It DOES however have a USB slot and comes with a USB cable for PictBridge printing, but I don't have a printer, let alone a pict-bridge capable printer.

My question is this... is there some way that I can download some sort of PictBridge Emulating software and trick the camera into thinking it's connected to a printer? I would like to download the 400kb pictures onto my computer, but alas, when I hook it up via USB, I get nothing but an error saying the 'Unknown Device Has Failed'.

Any help out there from the guru's of the tech-world?

Without an SD card - about the only way you can do it is by emailing all of the photos to yourself. (Then you bend over and let Vodafone stick it to you on packet fees) or alternatively, you can upload onto a site and grab them from the url's but again the packet fees will be huge.

As for other hacks, am not sure as I am not a keitai photo expert.

Alternatively, there are some off the shelf back-up SW packages that let you back up your data (calendar, address book etc) onto your PC. I am not sure if any do this for photos too but go to your nearest BIC or Yodabashi or Sofmap and have a look on the shelves. You may be lucky to find something.

check to see if ur phone has an InfraRed port. It will be about a 1cm long rectangle on the phone...In your phones phtot menu, is there a command to "send IR Data"..? if this ios the case, then you can transfer the files to your pc ( usually laptop ) via the built in IR port on the back.

It is standard on most laptops. Or you can get an attachment if you don't have one.

Hrmm... time to start searching for what it might look like.

I FINALLY got ahold of Vodafone Shibuya, where I purchased the phone yesterday. I was told that I could download software from their website for free that will allow for me to transfer the photos onto my computer. I've been searching and searching but nothing.

I called back moments ago and talked to another sales rep, now I'm being told that I need to go to Bic Camera and buy some back-up software....

I've got the V401SA, and have downloading my pics to my pc using the usb, there was no problem, although my laptop is all japanese. (It also has an IR port at the back which im about to try)So, if your laptop is from japan, then try the usb again.

Hrmm...

Have you installed any software of any sort? From what I understand, it doesn't come with any (sadly) and if you are using after-market software, what prey-tell is the title?

I don't have a Japanese computer (bought this one in Canada) and this doesn't have an infrared port sadly. I hate to ask, but could you give step-by-step on how you do it? I'll try to mimick that and see if I can get her up and running.

I rebooted my computer and have since conected it again. Now the phone shows up in My Computer as a "DPS Sample Device Camera". A small window even prompts me to ask me what software I wish to use to download the photos, HOWEVER there is no software in the list so I get to click one of two buttons... the 'Cancel' button or 'X'.... lovely.

THIS model appeals to me. While the camera is only 1.3 megapixels I think it is sufficient as it can take images up to 1280X960. I wouldn't mind having this one.

Though the V801sh model looked nice as well especially with the global calling/mail etc.. features.

Well unless some great new item comes out that lets me transfer my stuff onto my computer, I'm thoroughly screwed. A 1.3mp camera with no form of transfering full-size photos onto anything BUT the camera.

Sure I could emial them, but then they are 4.0kb pictures... lovely. What a redundant camera, just about as smart as a car with no windshield.
