How Can I Download the Filemaker Pro 7 ENGLISH Version?

Postby dingosatemybaby » Mon Oct 04, 2004 1:41 am

Okay, so I'd like to get Filemaker Pro 7 in English for my humble li'l business, but Amazon in the US won't ship it to me because I'm, well, not in the US. I went to Filemaker's own website, and it looks like the only way you can buy the software is on CD, and they'll only ship the CD to US addresses. No direct downloads, even if you pay the 299 clams. Is there any way that any of you vastly more experienced net users can see me getting my paws on this software, short of picking it up the next time I'm in the states? I'm a Mac user, BTW. Many thanks!

Call the Apple Store Ginza and ask them (in English if you wish) if they have an English copy. Often they keep a few English copies of major programs on hand and the certainly can order one for you.

LOL - thanks for the great suggestion - and the contact info for the Apple Store. Up to now, it seems like I've been able to download the software I need by using my US-based credit card to pay (when absolutely necessary, mind you), but when the vendor doesn't allow direct downloads, and won't ship the CD's outside the US, you're stuck. It seems odd - getting Amazon to ship US-region DVDs to Japan is no problem at all, as long as you're willing to pay the shipping, but try to order software and you get this obnoxious message that the stuff can't be shipped outside the US. Export restrictions on crappy commericial software? Dingo's perplexed - and vexed. <scratches head with hind leg>

The software/DVD export issue is most likely due to the fact that unlike a DVD or a book, which you can "own"(in the limited copyright stance viewpoint-you own the media but you couldn't rip a DVD and make a new movie from the scenes

Yikes! Mea culpa! For those who are wondering, I just wrote that I downloaded Quicken from Intuit's web site for the low, low price of $59.90. Well, apparently UG is Microsoft Money fan, and he took umbrage. Sorry about that.

Uh, no. I edited your post. You named a P2P app and mentioned using it to look for an illegal download. No umbrage involved, just a violation of board policies.

Hi Caustic,
I was just kidding. Should've put the obligatory smiley, or at least a ;). Figured the P2P reference was what it was - sorry about that.
