"Sakura," a TV drama about a fourth generation Japanese-American from Hawaii who returns to her ancestral land to help teach English, may have been a ratings winner for government broadcaster NHK but most Nikkei loathe the show, calling it "insulting,"
And what the story glosses over:
Um, I watched those scenes... and when he breaks off the marriage because she's become "too Japanese"...Another complains that Sakura's relationship with her American fiance (played by the recently married Thane Camus) was too cold.
It was even worse than the one with Nagashima Junior as the male romantic lead 
I wonder..maybe in an upcoming NHK morning serial they can have both Shane Camus and Nagashma Jr. share top billing...perhaps as poker-faced gay lovers bridging that insurmountable gap known as Kokusai-kekkon..only with a 21st century twist
