Miracle! No one hurt on derailed bullet trainYomiuri Shimbun / Monday, October 25, 2004 12:14:01 PM
In what was described as a miracle, no one was injured on the Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train that jumped its tracks while traveling at more than 200 kph when the first of the series of strong earthquakes hit Niigata Prefecture on Saturday.
This is the first time a bullet train has derailed since the Tokaido Shinkansen began operations in 1964.

There has nothing but video of cracked pavement on TV for the past 24 hours.

No news, no sleaze, no game shows --- just footage of people with lot of broken beer bottles. :(

Loma Prieta Leftovers

Postby mr. sparkle » Mon Oct 25, 2004 2:32 pm

After the Loma Prieta quake in '89 all that was left in the darkened liquor stores were cans of beer. Drank copious tall boys that night - for sure. That quake scared the krap out of me. I remember exactly where I was--big shakers are something you don't easily forget.

Do you guys actually have earthquake "kits" prepared? Bottled water, canned food, etc.? If not, here's a link for you.
