Farms

Postby Maths Dude » Tue Oct 26, 2004 3:36 pm

I wonder how big Taro's farm really is....
I grew up on a small 1,300 acre farm, wonder how much that would cost in Japan!

'Bout an acre and half.
100.00 tsubo, 330.00 sqm. 0.73 hectares metric (hectare is 2.5 acres)

A 1,300 acre Japanese farm would be 1-2 million yen (min) per US acre and would not be contiguous acreage.

That's not too shabby for Japan. What are the yearly expenses like? Like for tax etc

hmmm, 1 hectare = 10,000 meters squared. So 330 meters squared goes in more times than 2.5 :P

The 1 hectare is figure is wrong. Sorry...Metric-challenged American.

It's a few hundred 100 tsubo (100 tsubo are 330 square meters). Pacing it off and eyeballing it, my field is about 1.5 acres -- 40 meters by 125 meters (but the "Perfect Buddha" grave outcropping takes up 25 meters). In full production, we get a yield of 300+ JPN bushels of rice but we grow most greenhouse strawberries and taima.

Taxes are nill. JA co-op fees run 80-150,000 yen/year.

Bottom Line: It's toy farming but the view is great from my button benjo.

Sept. 26, 2004, my harvest.

FARM? WICKED! Can I pay $1000 to be a volunteer worker on your farm, just like Japanese do when they go abroad?!

Hey man, that looks pretty nice. Hopfully I can get something like that. Maybe when I'm in my 50's and getting into retirement mode. One of my favorite japanese tv shows was 'dash'. You probably know what I'm talking about.
