What does it all mean?

Postby pirho » Wed Oct 27, 2004 10:14 pm

Hello I'm not in Japan, but I just need to know somethings...
There are some songs in which Japanese is spoken, like the last track on the Tricky album Blowback and the beginning of Gwen Stefani's new song...

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

And does anybody know any lovely looking Japanese girls who wish to be immortalised by me, through the art of painting? (Tell 'em to mail me...)

I listened to that Gwen Stefani song on Launch and I didn't hear any Japanese. You didn't provide much information.

Well, I was bored and didn't want to work :-P I believe it's a Japanese woman saying

gwen ha suru no Which means Is gwen doing - or will gwen do it? Japanese is disturbingly vague about such out of context statements.
(or maybe my Japanese just sucks)

Gwen answers in English.
"I kinda know why they're here. Which makes no sense. She is probably trying to sound cool.

Ok, I was bored and aimlessly channel surfing. Boy, did a doubletake when I heard Japanese in the background.

Gwen Stefani's Debut Solo LP Inspired By Insecurity And Japan
11.10.2004 8:41 PM EST / MTV.com
....The song [What are you waiting for] encapsulated Stefani's fears -- about being scared to do the record, about wanting to do it anyway but not knowing why — and eventually grew to include other inspirations that recur on the record, such as her fascination with Japanese schoolgirl style.
"Out of nowhere, I was thinking, 'I can't wait to go back and do Japan,' " she said. "Because when you do your record, you go around the world. That became my muse for the entire album, that one line, thinking about these Harajuku girls, and it ended up being a theme for the whole record. It just keeps coming up over and over again."
Even though she is satisfied with her album, Stefani still has her inner conflicts, insecurities and occasional writer's block.

WHO ARE THE HARAJUKU GIRLS?
New York Post, Nov 21
In case you haven't noticed, Gwen Stefani's got herself a new entourage: four Harajuku girls who follow her everywhere.
The four - who may or may not be named Love, Angel, Music and Baby - save her from drowning in the video for "What U Waiting 4," the first single from her solo debut album. They trail behind her and vamp for the camera at public appearances. In interviews, they sit, all in a row, behind Stefani, frequently tilting their heads, alternating facial expressions and shifting in their seats - always in sync. ...
..."That became my muse for the entire album ... thinking about these Harajuku girls," Stefani told MTV's "The Leak."
Stefani adds to the oddness. On a recent appearance on MTV's "Total Request Live," Carson Daly asked Stefani about the girls. Stefani quizzically replied, "You can see them?" and claimed they are a figment of her imagination.

Couldn't agree more, looks like another half-arsed marketing ploy for a singer going solo.

Shame, I always liked their music, especially "New" which went largely unrecognised in the charts but was a cracking song [end of rant]

Those 4 girls are with her in her next stupid video where she rips off "Fiddler on the Roof" ("If I was a rich man" becomes "If I was a rich girl") and now, HP is doing their best, she'll be "U2-ing" an iPod... erm, camera inspired by sad... erm, said harajuku girls.

Sidenote... have any of you seen "Bratz" the Barbie of a new generation with also Harajuku inspired fashions?
