In Tokyo, the genders are segregated
The Age , Australia - 1 NovTOKYO is a "two-track" town. The top one, called the "career track", is for those who are management material. And it is a rare woman who gets on to it.
Instead, clustered on the "non-career track", are the female majority ....But 13 stubborn women, in a court case against Japan's biggest securities firm, have revealed the bitterness of the legions of "office ladies".
Tokyo lawyer Hisako Konno loathes the two-track system and the way that it has become an unquestioned feature of recruitment......
....One-fifth of 1 per cent of Japan's publicly listed and private company board positions are held by women, according to a survey by the Washington-based Corporate Women Directors International. Some of the biggest names, such as Toyota, have never had a woman director in Japan....more...
