FG Fantasy Football!

Postby kamome » Sun Aug 29, 2004 11:28 pm

It's that time of year again! If you're an armchair NFL football fan like me, then chances are you might like to play fantasy football. I have set up a free Yahoo! league for us if you want to be involved. I will be League Commissioner and provide updates, funny/annoying commentary, and rejoinders to Captain Japan's smack-talking.

If any of you would like to get in on this for some fun and for some smack talking of your own, here are the details:

1) Get a Yahoo! account if you don't have one already
2) League name: FG Bowl
3) password: FG
4) League ID#178881

There will be a live on-line draft on Wednesday, September 8, starting at 11PM Japan time (10AM EST if you are in the States). I have added an extra position to the standard roster so that you can put a 4th wide receiver or a 3rd running back into your roster for any given week.

This will also be a higher scoring league than standard leagues, with such features as:

-- return yardage on punts and kickoffs counting toward a player's overall yardage for the game

-- 50+ yard field goals worth as much as a touchdown, and increased points awarded in other long-yardage field goal situations

-- 20 passing yards/point awarded to QBs, 20 rushing yards/point awarded to RBs, 20 receiving yards/point awarded to WR's (subject to some tweaking)

Hurry, because there are only a few roster spots left. Oh, and there's no money involved in this, unless someone wants to start making hard cash wagers on the side. :D

*Note: this was originally offered to Premium Members, but I have extended the invitation to the general forum to get wider coverage.

Yes, BB, I am looking forward to smashmouth mano-e-mano against your weak ass Hyogo Hounddogs team.

Last year, the playoffs were pretty topsy-turvy. Our man Guyjean had the number one pick (Priest Holmes) on his roster and started the season gangbusters, then he petered out and barely limped into the playoffs as the 6th seed. I don't think he even won a playoff game. I lost in the final round because I benched one of my key running backs in favor of overhyped and underperforming Cory Dillon (aaarrrrggghh!). Then, out of the blue, the guy who occupied 4th place during the entire regular season won the championship.

I think the competition will be even better this year, because everyone who is playing is returning with another year of experience under their belt. I'm gonna' miss the days of seeing Captain Japan getting routed on a weekly basis, even by those teams with absentee owners.

Whachyu talkin' bout? I ended up in third! I don't recall you finishing second..

Any way of accessing last year's schedule? I'd like to confirm your selective memory is slipping..

Exactly. The No-Pan will happily return to defend its title. Heart and guts will again be its motto for this year's campaign. Hide the women and children when the No-Pan team bus rolls into your town!

What??! I completely remember getting through the playoffs to the semifinals. I would have faced the eventual champion if not for my stupid roster choice.

Whatever. It's all good. You could make me pick dead last in the draft and I'll still come up with the best damn team in the whole league. You are all going to be stomped by the Krush once again!!

To all other FG's: this is just a taste of the smack talking that will occur this year. Strap on your helmets and get ready for some football. 8)
