Learning the language while in Japan

Postby tatsujin » Thu Nov 04, 2004 8:42 am

Hi guys,

A quick information request -

Do you know any nifty ways of practicing/learning Japanese by day in Japan? I have no trouble going out and about at night and chatting to people in pubs but during the day it seems a bit trickier...

Is there any cafes/organisations/meeting groups that look to language exchange?? I am currently based in Tokyo.

Any information offered would be much appreciated!

Also, any ideas where to pick up a prekeitei? I went to Vodafone and NTT in Ueno and they didn't know much about them (maybe my crap japanese didn't help...) I don't want to rent a phone as it seems excessive for the month I'm here and a contract isn't an option either. Is there maybe a place to pick one up second hand? (tried Metropolis)

Thanks again

You should check Metropolis in regards to language exchange clubs, or even for people who want to do language exchange.

Thanks Yaki for the info - much appreciated. I have found a few places with prepaid phones - mainly combinis. I am going to try and pick one up tomorrow.

As regards the language, I started seeing a really nice Japanese girl who doesn't speak a word of English. We've been out twice and to say its an experience wouldn't do it justice - copious use of the old jisho was in order!
