luuuv hotels

Postby altar » Mon Mar 08, 2004 6:01 pm

Can you actually stay in a love hotel for a few days like you would in a regular hotel? Because for what 6500 or 7000 a night, the Shibuya ones are pretty well located.
By the way, just come back to Seoul from a 4 day visit in Tokyo... it was great.

If you were to stay alll day it would work out at least 30,000 for 24 hours.

But if you get a MEMBERS card I am sure it would be a little cheaper.

also you only get to steal only two yukatas from the time you were there. If you went to many you could have far more stealing potential.
Am I still not allowed to have a sig?

luuuv hotels were called "tsurekomi"

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu Oct 21, 2004 11:43 am

The wacky world of love hotels
Japan Today, Oct 21
Love hotels are big business in Japan. ...
... Miura Love Hotel Total Research Office, reports that there are 37,000 love hotels in Japan and that nearly 500 million couples visit them each year. That works out to 1,370,000 couples using a love hotel per day, which is more than double the annual number of combined visitors to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea..... a whopping 4 trillion yen in sales a year, almost 1 trillion yen more than the annual takings of the Japan Racing Association (JRA). ...
.... The origin of the love hotel goes back to World War II. Simple travel inns were set up for prostitutes to service American soldiers in postwar Japan. These establishments were called "tsurekomi" (bring your own woman) ....

I agree...the love hotels are great, but they aren't really designed for you to enter, exit, then re-enter. In general, you don't get a "key" as when you leave a normal hotel. To be honest, the "business hotels" suck ass. For the price they aren't worth it at all. Before my married days I often packed light, visited whereever with the girlfriend, stayed at the love hotel, woke up and left the next day, put the luggage in the locker at the train station and f'ed around all day, then after dinner we would find another love hotel. One time we did the business hotel thing, and it was really depressing.

I believe you do get a key at some love hotels. You may have to ask about reentry and cost for a 24-hour stay. Some hotels even offer continental breakfast! And they all have karaoke in there. I think it's a great deal. I don't know if you can negotiate a rate for a long-term stay, but knowing the Japanese, they'll stick to the posted rate.

Now the kicker of questions...

After my recent stalker problem, some of you have suggested I use a love hotel instead. I will take that advice to heart. Now can you folks give me detailed instructions and/or a map on how to get to them in Shibuya? Please?

Dude, they are all over the place. The ones I know of are closer to the Hachiko exit, in and around the center gai, and dogen-zaka areas. Though I've others, most will have a rather garish name, and will have two prices on their sign, 'stay' and 'rest'. They're kinda' hard to miss, once you start looking for 'em.

OK, so which corner there is the rather rotund Starbucks on? I can read all of four things there of which are in english and don't know the rest. That being said, I don't even know WHAT Q-Front is.

Q-front (and the rather large Starbucks) is directly in front of the Hachiko exit at Shibuya station. Head West down Dogen-zaka dori (left from the Hachiko exit). You'll pass the 109 tower, roughly parallel to Shibuya Mac city, and continue on until the next major traffic intersection. Go right there to reach the Sihibuya-O or left to the Dogen-zaka district. You'll find a lot of places around that intersection that will suit your needs.
