Sasebo's Nevada-tan. News is surfacing in strange circles.

First of all, sorry. This probably belongs in the no-longer-existant beyond fucked forum.

You no doubt know all about the 11-year old Sasebo girl who killed her classmate in cold blood. But stuff has been surfacing slowly on the english-based net about a "Nevada-chan/tan fanclub" of sorts. Really fucked up stuff (re: fanart) from god knows what bowels the internet may hold. Its ranks hold several nationalities including Americans and Japanese.

Here is the biggest research project I have seen on it. Even this website has some concerning undertones.

I was talking about the fans. She's a sick fuck too though.

What the hell should they do with kids that kill? Maybe Japan is too lenient but should they really try them like adults and put them away for life like in the US, though?

However, my impression is that the site is devoted to glorified and stylized portrayals of the killer herself, not the event, and certainly not the victim. It is not analogous to 9-11 memorial sites; it's different b/c of its focus on the killer, particularly fan-like materials, like stylized comics. I have seen no fansites devoted to stylized portrayals of the hijackers, although some may exist on the lunatic fringe.

Are kids culpable for murders such as this? Could Nevada distinguish between right and wrong? I don't think so. I don't think twelve year old children have the cognitive ability to form the criminal intent to commit murder. I believe children like this copy the world around them, from parents, siblings, the popular culture, movies, music, anime, comics and the like.

Yeah, I read that and it definitely rang hollow. Memorializing people who died in a terrorist attaak and glorifying a killer are in no way analogous.

I agreed with everything else you said, but I thought I might take issue with a few things you wrote here.

Possibly not most 12 yos now, but they will have that ability some time in the near future, evolutionarily speaking. Stay-at-home slackers nonwithstanding, modern man has been reaching adulthood at a younger age, so at some point in the future the legal age of adulthood could in fact be considered 11 or 12 years of age.

But that begs the question - just what was the murderous tyke copying? I've seen the 'cutter knife' imagery in a few TV shows and such (GTO the TV show, for one), but the setting was almost always a high school and the wielder's intent was a threat of force rather than actually attacking someone.
Even if some portrayal of an elementary school 'cutter knife' attack does exist, it doesn't sanction a real-life reenactment.

Like the Nagasaki kidnapping-molestation murder of a 4 yo by a 12 yo, the Sasebo incident signals a lack of a child's ability to curb harmful impulses/desires or distinguish right from wrong. We shouldn't forget that in both instances there were no mitigating circumstances like a plea of self-defense. Rather both have aspects of premeditated action, planning to lure the unsuspecting victim to a location where the act could be carried out. I tend to believe that no amount of psychological counseling will help these youngsters: for whatever reason, these murderous children are lacking that check on violent tendencies that most of us in society have.

Such children have a profound mental or physiological flaw, one which I doubt years of therapy teaching 'I won't kill others to get what I want' will ever remedy.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming...
