It may sound like a fishy story. Well, actually it is one. [South Africa rugby coach] coach Jake White believes that fish, the raw variety, holds the key to Springbok success against Ireland in the Test at Lansdowne Road in Dublin on Saturday. White revealed that a little Friday night session, before every match, may have played a role in bringing the team seven wins in nine internationals this year.
"It has to be our sushi ceremony," he told Mike Greenaway of the South African Daily News. White and his management team already have a booking at a Japanese restaurant in Dublin this Friday night. White says that on the evening before each of his seven victories this year he and his assistants have put their faith in the raw fish delicacy. The Bok management did break with this "tradition", twice, this year. Before the Tri-Nations matches against the All Blacks in Christchurch and Australia Perth in July they opted for steak houses ... and paid the price. Those are the only two matches the Boks have lost this year!
"We will have a belly full of sushi, Friday night," White joked. "We won't mess with this tradition."
