OVERSTAYING VISAS: 'Find students and get them out'
Asahi Shimbun, Nov 15 -- Claiming that "bogus'' foreign students fuel 'social unrest,'' immigration authorities have demanded a private university in Chiba Prefecture hunt down overseas students who are enrolled but are not attending classes.
The Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau wants those students and others that have overstayed visas after enrolling at Josai International University in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, to leave Japan.
The bureau suspects that at least 220 of the overseas students enrolled at Josai in fiscal 2003 were not attending classes, including those that had overstayed their visas....more...
