Gov't panel studies M7 quake scenario in Tokyo area
Kyodo / Nov 17
.... the panel compiled for the first time a map simulating locations that could be hit by tremors of varying intensities, including an upper 6 on the 7-point Japanese intensity scale in Tokyo and three nearby prefectures and 7 in Tokyo's waterfront areas.... The panel also prepared maps of locations such as the Kasumigaseki government district in central Tokyo and Narita airport outside Tokyo.
The government plans to utilize the council's findings to devise policies to strengthen the functions of the nation's capital in case of a deadly quake, the officials said.
The panel plans to compile the full extent of projected casualties and damage around the middle of next month.
