...Called the Fish Empathy Project, the campaign reflects a strategy shift by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals... "Fish are so misunderstood because they're so far removed from our daily lives," said Karin Robertson, 24, the Empathy Project manager and daughter of an Indiana fisheries biologist. "They're such interesting, fascinating individuals, yet they're so incredibly abused."

I can't help but comment on this. PETA people need some serious help. They worry about animals rights, then humm and haw over anything that is NOT related directly to saving the animals.

People starving? Too bad, animals first.

War is breaking out? Who cares... animals first.

A dingo ate your baby? Who cares... animals need to eat too!

In essence I agree with a lot of what PETA stands for. But sometimes I think they take it a bit too far.... and are somewhat misdirected.. as aquamarine has pointed out.

Japanese ornamental fish fanciers have airlifted 450 koi carp from breeding grounds damaged by last month's earthquake in Niigata prefecture.
Local breeders chartered a helicopter to rescue the fish from damaged ponds in areas still cut off by road.
Niigata prefecture is famous for its ornamental koi - or "living jewels" - and fans of the fish have launched an international appeal to save them. ....more....
