I could comment on a large degree of this but it would be mainly subjective, just on the cartoon point, went to see a film this week in a Japanese cinema - Hauru. Thought it was as strange as hell, but was nonetheless impressed with the production values and cinematography - I think a lot of anime films can and do compare to Western films.
I can't think of many films that have the depth and mainstream appeal, of say, Ghost in the Shell
I was mainly commenting on this part:Someone who takes fanboying to the next level. Is brainwashed by the rosy images on anime that Japan is a wonderland where no wrong can't be righted.
I got the definition from off an image board named 4chan. Please do not misunderstand. I'm a HUGE fan of anime and manga, having watched over 1000 tapes and dvds and having read countless manga. I was just owning up to the fact that I'm a bit Wapanese. But since discovering this board, I'm more knowledgable of how things really are.
I guess the main thing I'm getting at is too many J-fans get this notion in their heads that everything in Japan is better than their home country which simply isn't true. Japan is just as flawed as the rest of the planet.

Thinks the Japanese will treat him like a king when Japan is one of the most racist, xenophobic, and secretive countries on the planet. Wants to hook up with a Japanese woman but will probably fail at that also.
That would be a compelling thread.djgizmoe wrote:do you know anywhere you can find some amusing pics of fugly gaijin and their inappropriately fit J-bird girlfriends? Think it'd make a great thread...
