I have seen software somewhere that will remove the pixellation.

I was looking through the local electronics shop for a BS digital receiver and came across two of these. All the information was in Japanese, and of course they had no pictures of porno videos on them but you could easily get the idea what they were to be used for. But I can't believe these things would really work. If so then aren't they breaking the law selling them as their purpose is to allow people to view sex acts, which by law is prohibited.

sac130e - you'll be happy to know that a lot of Japanese adult film made for sale outside Japan does not have the mosaic. Sure, some of the mosaiced stuff is sold as well, but a lot of the exports to Taiwan, HK, and such have no mosaic.

Thus, this is actually more of a technical/academic question, but I am curious - can the mosaic be removed? In the physics of video editing, just what is the mosaic, and more importantly, can it be removed?

[Not that any of this really matters to me - if you were to find porn in China (despite supposedly being illegal), it'd all be DVDs for Taiwan/HK with no mosaic anyway]

There is no way it could be removed. At the point the video is duplicated the mosaic becomes part of the picture. Unless the mosaic was an overlay on a separate video channel (which is highly unlikely given Japanese porn's low-budget methods.)

And, I suspect, often times the mosaic is added by placing a lens in the center of the video camera. I'm basing this on the fact that sometimes the camera will go to the actress face and you can see everything below.

Anyway at some point you realize Japanese porn is just as scripted and fake as American porn and you'll start looking for true-amateur porn. Do girls really like having some guy ramming his fingers in? I don't think so.

Often as in meaning quite a lot? I haven't seen any (through about 6 that I have watched) of the girls looking that young, and after exploring through Shibuya, and a couple other select 'areas' of Tokyo/Yokohama, I haven't ever seen anything simiar. The closest I can relate to was in Yokohama Station there's a store that sell's CD-R's with photos of young girls in swimsuits (they look between 15-20)

I'd rather remove the porn from the pixellation. There's nothing better than meeting some friends for a few beers and getting pixelled.

But if you must do it the other way, send me the film and a large cheque and I'll run it through my Depixellator.
