Japanese Language Schools

Postby sfjedi » Tue Nov 30, 2004 2:51 pm

Anybody here living in Japan as a full-time student at a dedicated Japanese Language School?

If so, what part of Japan is the school located? Can you provide some links? I've found quite a bit in Tokyo from the internet, but the cost of living is too high there.

So far, this one looks good.

http://www.yamasa.org/index.htm

It's in Aichi prefecture near Nagoya. The cost of living is half of Tokyo. You can rent a studio for 50000 yen per month.

Besides the cost of living, I am interested in schools that have an internatoinal student body such as this, where the teachers speak Japanese only because English speakers (for example) might represent less than than the vast majority of the students. I think this environment would be really condusive to learning the language as quick as possible.

Anyone with some experiences?

I plan on moving to Japan and living there for a couple of years while attending a Japanese language school. I've been thinking of doing something like this for a long time now...

I studied at yamasa for 3 semesters. They are a good school and the cost of living is far lower than in Tokyo. Its a good school but keep in mind that it is definately in a small town so you may have to adjust not only to being in Japan but to being in small-town Japan.

I would certainly recommend the school... I am only around FG sporadically these days so drop me an email if you have specific questions

Okazaki has 350.000 people, not exactly Mayberry. The housing makes yamasa worth it in the long run. The school is only so-so (not bad but nothing spectacular) but there is a lot more involved to coming to Japan then just the curriculum. I highly recommend it for your first time. It's the difference between enjoying Japan and becoming a FG. Plus, lots of cute Taiwanese girls go to Yamasa.

Without a place to live I can't think of any other school that could suit you better.

I'm already used to that, I prefer it I think. My ex-wife was from Aomori, and I spent a lot of time away from the city where there's nothing but rice patties for as far the eye can see. Oh, and pachinko parlors of course...

Andocrates,

It's not too difficult to travel to Tokyo or similar on the weekends, right? Since Aichi is in the middle, how long do the trains take?

How long...?

Postby Mike Oxlong » Wed Dec 01, 2004 12:40 am

...If you're not talking about my manhood, then:

'bout 30 min. by express to Nagoya...from there, 'round 2 hrs. to Tokyo, or 1 hr. to Osaka by Shink.

Yamasa's fine. Check the archives if you want details- we've all written about it already.
