Kyodo via Japan Today: 14-year-old boy arrested for forging 1,000 yen bills
Tokyo police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in Setagaya on suspicion of forging 1,000 yen bills by using a scanner and personal computer, the police said Wednesday. Police also took into custody, but did not arrest, three other boys at the same school on suspicion of passing the fake bills.
Some of the students said they forged more than 100 bills and passed 80 of them, according to the police. They said they learned how to forge the bills from an article in a magazine they bought via the Internet, according to the police.

In the states, there are similar laws governing copying of money, but they don't apply to minors. Since Japanese law is very similar, I wouldn't doubt that this kid really doesn't get into *too* much trouble. Certainly not life in prison.
Why do the Japanese always have to have a favorite saying?

Actually I saw these notes in NHK News in HiVision: Damn good work with just a color inkjet. The kids had the registration points perfect even though they were using a single-sided printer. The bills were corrected and there was no moire pattern problems. They somehow got of hold of good rag bond paper that worked well in the ink-jet.
Bottom Line: Send me a resume kids!

Kyodo via Crisscross: Bogus Y10,000 notes passed at convenience stores
Fake 10,000 yen notes with the same serial number were used at about 10 convenience stores in Tokyo to get real money with small purchases, police said Thursday. Police said the fake notes were used Tuesday and they all had the same serial number — HT741858B. The bills had a watermark but were tinged red, indicating they may have been photocopied, police said. According to the police, a man who looks in his 20s bought chewing gum with a fake 10,000 yen note and pocketed the change at a convenience store in Sumida Ward at around 7 p.m. Tuesday

Mainichi: Foreigners suspected of using counterfeit cash at Okinawa convenience store
CHATAN, Okinawa -- Foreigners are suspected of using a counterfeit 20-dollar note at a convenience store here, police said Saturday. At around 8 p.m. on Friday, an employee of a convenience store in Chatan reported to a local police station that a counterfeit 20-dollar bill had been found among the store's takings. Investigators who examined the footage from a surveillance camera at the store believe the fake money was used by two foreigners, and are searching for them. Local police have also contacted the U.S. forces in Okinawa, suspecting that the two men may be connected to a local U.S. base
