Rent Money

Postby Blah Pete » Sun Oct 20, 2002 9:51 pm

Did`nt know you could make so much money being a pedestrian. Rent is coming and the arubaitoo was kind of slow this month. May have to go down to a cross walk and take a dive. Will watch some South American soccer highlights first to get some pointers.

I'd say don't do anything without consulting your girlfriend and her parents.

Also find a Japanese friend that speaks excellent English (if your girlfriend doesn't).

I hit a lady who was riding her bike thru a crosswalk once.
I asked if she wanted me to call the police and she said no. I gave her all my info. She walked off.

Police called me at my job on the base 2 days later. I went to the police department and they start with their broken english. I told them I spoke Japanese, then they put on their "hard" faces and tried to give me the third degree.

I broke that up real quick and set them straight on the matter. They thought I had run from the scene, I told them I asked her if she wanted me to call them and SHE said no. Maybe I have an honest face because they sat down instead of trying to stand over me (I'm 207cm) and brought me some tea. After some friendly conversation I left.

So basically, if 2 parties come to an agreement at the scene, the police basically remove their hands from the matter.

After that the insurance companies take over. You may want to ask your girlfriend to be a go between between you and the other person.

Oh, my wife and I went to visit the lady I hit and took a present and inquired about her health later. (this is common courtesy). If the person that hit you doesnt, it could bear weight on any legal precedings that may or may not occur.

You may want to see if you can get the services of a lawyer. Occording to custom, this person OWES you big time. The lady I hit had a lawyer contact me, however she was riding her bike thru a crosswalk instead of walking, so I wasnt held as liable. She was ruled partially at fault (thank God)

I think she tried to drag it out a bit, but all she had was a severly bruised ankle and a busted bicycle. I thought I had killed her.

Your accident sounds much more severe. Stay on top of it and don't sign ANYTHING without reading it or having your girlfriends PARENTS read it for content. This may or may not be of help. I was on the offending side so there is not much for me to say.
