KANJI TATTOOS overseas, of course, are the inverse of EngRish.

KARURI (light) is the favorite Kanji tattoo I've seen on a blond bimbo's ankle.

She told me it's meant 'lightness/freedom'. I told her it meant 'slut'.

She giggled. I giggled. We wiggled. Nuf' said ;-)

hahaha, I have "enmon" in hiragana on the back of my neck. Funny story, I Was once stopped by this dude on the street and he pointed at my tatoo and said "Enmonsan da". Then he shows me this Sabra magazine he is reading and low and behold, there is a photo of me and my tatoo in it. I guess someone had taken a photo of in at some party and then published it... my five min of fame. lol

I like the T-shirts. I used to make my own original shirts with those iron on thingys that you can make with your computer/printer. Two of my most popular one's were "Kuso Neko" (a spoof on Kuro Neko.) I modified the company logo to include a steamy pile of cat poop and changed the name of the company to suit it a little better. Another that I had made was one that only had two simple words on it. "Eigo Daijobu," written in Kanji. Both shirts got a lot of attention. I will look for the .jpg image and post it if I can find it.

The first kanji is "buta", which means "pig". The second one is "ushi": "cow". While the characters themselves might look aesthetically pleasing to the foreign eye, they are no different from English letters to the Japanese eye. So that cool looking kanji on someone's cap could wind up having a completely unintended meaning.

that tune by the Kome Kome Club is the opposite of engrish, where the band pokes fun at how foreigners view japanese viewing foreigners.....or was it poking fun at japanese viewing foreigners viewing japanese....something like that....

It's really all over the place here in the states. Like random katakana letters strung together based on how cool they look. Or kanji strung together with no particles so that it can't be read. (and no, it's not Chinese) Dragon Ball Z t-shirts are a really good example.

On a totally unrelated note, you ever notice how one misplaced vowel or kanji will throw a Japanese reader completly off track? You can stick an unrelated word (such as sometimes happens with using a spell checker) in an english paragraph and we can go go. It's very frustrating because my Japanese has to be perfect before I can say something.

Japanese say stuff like

Gajin "You wanna gram a bite to eat later?"
Japanese "I want"

but you make a mistake and they rip you a new one.

Jangrish Engrish designers

There is a large underground group that is studying behavioral science that is behind the research. They are behind the marketing and observations of individuals and groups who purchase nonsense jangrish and engrish clothing and misc. advertised nonsense in the hopes that eventually, when the internet becomes obsolete, they will be able to go forth and create idiots who are both illiterate and clueless in large third world nations, as well as those nations that are against capitalism. The test run needs to be done initially in first world nations, in the greater corporations where incompetent managers and their superiors purchase failing companies to see if the employees will stand for such nonsense, then after the take over is complete, get rid of all the competent folks, because the idea is to create mindless idiots, not thoughtful, conscientious individuals that will improve the company and allow for better efficiency. Once they are finished with their initial round of research and development of jangrish and engrish, they will move forward with step two, which is eurogrish, then create supplementary languages from then on to accomodate the various religions as well. The organization is very clever to mask their intentions, because nobody wants to be thought of as an idiot, outright.
Well, there are some holes in this theory, but it does seem to make some sense in the current economic climate...at least in some circles I've worked at and seen first hand.....

100% Kill Ratio! Everytime I walk into Yokohama Station Starbucks (South), some girl is COMPELLED to talk to me. The Starbucks staff die laughing and English speaking Japanese "get it."

Downside: The "Evil/Hairy Barbarian" T-shirt also has a 100% Kill Ratio with randy farm obaachan of the WWII era. You'll be a big hit in Kansai DO-INAKA places like Wakayama and with fishmongers in Kochi. Basically, Kansai people are not as "humor-impaired" as anal Kanto-jin.

As I've said many a time to Japanese folks, MR. CHILDREN's producers are either fully aware the pedophile tone or are deserving of 1st place in the "CREAP Hall of Fame." (My friends in at Sony Music/Multimedia say the producers must know since there are zillions of bilinguals in that biz --- it must be intentional perv.)

I must be naive, but I never saw a paedophile overtone in the name "Mr Children" until I read your allusion to it(which made me chuckle I admit). Perhaps some people see paedophilia everywhere...like others see terrorists or 'reds' everywhere. Could I be mistaken? 8O

I once thought of getting the two Kanji that spell Kaibutsu as a tattoo,but
alas, I'd probably get an allergic reaction to the iodine in the ink.

If I wore a t-shirt with Kaibutsu on it in Japan,would I just get the expected laughs or would some people get freaked out by it? :jawdrop:

I thought the wording was pretty cool and it might fly in Japan though the kanji order'd have to be fixed... :suspect:

Spent five minutes trying to read it right to left, top to bottom as you would normally read traditional Japanese script with no luck until I finally saw the site blurb.

At least this one makes sense....
