Don't be ridiculous. Ganguro has nothing to do with wanting to be some other race. It is the epitome of Japanese-ness.

I don't know Charles. I've always associated orange skin, ash lips, and gray hair with caucasians.

I remember reading an essay by Murakami Haruki that inadvertently revealed what a crank he's become. He wrote about ganguro and yamamba, he considered them a threat to the entirety of Japanese society, an intolerable outrage that, if not suppressed, might cause sufficient disorder that everyone might feel free to be whatever they liked, instead of nice proper salarimen and kyouiku mama. And this was the same guy who, a few years earlier in his book "Underground," wrote about how he used to walk past street demonstrations by Aum Shinrikyo, while averting his eyes, trying to pretend they didn't exist.

To return vaguely to the topic at hand, here's an artwork by my former neighbor Danny Martinez, it was the most infamous artwork at the 1993 Whitney Biennial (where, incidentally, one of my own artworks was exhibited without authorization or attribution). Your entrance pass to the exhibit was one of the metal tags, as you circulated around the museum you were part of the artwork, everyone was suppose to look around at the other tags people wore and piece together the message.

Not exactly. I do wish I had asian hair though, because long hair looks good on asian guys. And once I got old, it'd start turning white and I'd have that mysterious old wiseman look going.

Yes, you should upgrade ASAP. If this is how you feel now, you'll soon find yourself being greeted like this after the upgrade. Strongly recommended. I switched from Japanese to Swedish myself, and it was well worth the price.
