I think I remember an article some time ago about a researcher who found that the amount of electromagnetic radiation in Tokyo was just about at "frying" levels.... especially around train tracks.

It's my only hope that we as human beings learn to evolve and adapt to these changes we've made to our environment. I am going to genetically breed an army of electromagnetic resistant uberhumans who will take over the world and not have a fried brain. :P

Fighting Tech Stress with Style

The fabric industry tackles the invisible threats of modern life.
japaninc June 2003 issue

Designer Michiyo Inaba presented an unusual line of clothes at the spring/summer 2003 Tokyo Collection show in December. Fourteen of her designs featured flashes of silver lining. The mysterious silver sheets were in suit pockets, peeking out from between skirt slits and beneath apron dresses. The material was a nanocrystal cobalt alloy, and while it added to the funky, high-tech feel of Inaba's collection, it also addressed a health concern: Inaba's detachable 1.2-mm-thick sheets block electromagnetic waves.

Inaba designed the clothes to protect pregnant homemakers and wary businesswomen from the adverse health effects of electromagnetic stoves and cellular phones.

Mobile phones "increase tumor risk"
Thursday October 14, 12:44 AMSTOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Ten or more years of mobile phone use increases the risk of developing acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor on the auditory nerve, according to a study by the respected Swedish Karolinska Institute.
The risk was confined to the side of the head where the phone was usually held and there were no indications of increased risk for those who have used their mobile for less than 10 years...

So has anyone done a study like this with WIFI networks. This is a form of high frequency radio like a cell phone (though I do not know how they compare). Since these networks are everwhere now, one must wonder...

I have heard about the researches and the dangers of using Keitai, but thanks for listing this information.

Heck, seems that everything causes cancer...one little bleep and your DNA can change and bang, cancer.

I know it is weird, but today I could not live without my keitai...although I try not to use it a lot. I know we could all survive without them, heck I did all these years. But looking around, it is that expotential growth that happens sometimes. Like when the internet came out after years of being used by the govt....then bang......people think they cant live without it.

Maybe they will recommend some head piece to wear to protect us  kidding. There are the ear pieces now....sometimes people would freak me out because they are having an arguement and it looks like they are talking to themselves until I see their keitai in their hands

Very good point, 2.4Ghz happens to be the frequency used for microwave ovens.

I know it is only 100mw and microwaves are 1000 but over years it could cause problems.

What about bluetooth headsets and the like, they have got to bad for the brain, don't forget your wireless gamepads!

I had one of the first handheld cel phones, the old "brick" phone. Since I worked in an area with poor cel reception, I took special pains to make sure my handset had the strongest possible signal. IIRC most of the phones of that era had only 2 watts of transmission power but mine was 2.5 watts, the legal limit. Modern digital phones have much less power.

I always use my left ear on the phone. A few years back, I was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma in my left ear. I assure you that surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma is not fun at all.

There is always the chance that my acoustic neuroma was congenital, but after reading all the modern research, I doubt it.

Reuters: Japan Cellphone Firms Find No DNA Damage from Waves
Japan's four mobile operators said on Tuesday a joint study they conducted found no evidence that radio waves from mobile phones harm body cells or damage DNA in contrast to findings from a similar study in Europe. NTT DoCoMo Inc., KDDI Corp., Vodafone K.K., and Tu-Ka Cellular Tokyo Inc. said they had studied the effect of radio waves on human cells for over two years and found no damage even though they used radio waves up to 10 times stronger than normally used. The interim results come after researchers in Europe announced opposite findings in December and could further cloud the debate over the effect of mobile phones on health.

I suppose if you taped an access point to the side of your head and walked around with it there (and powered on) for a year or two you might see some issues. ;)

News.com: Japanese study clears mobiles of brain cancer risk
Using a mobile phone does not increase your risk of brain cancer, according to a new Japanese study that is the first to consider the effects of radiation on different parts of the brain. The finding adds to the growing body of evidence that mobile phones are safe. Scientists at Tokyo Women's Medical University compared phone use in 322 brain cancer patients with 683 healthy people and found that regularly using a mobile did not significantly affect the likelihood of getting brain cancer. They also studied the radiation emitted from different types of phones to assess the affect on different areas of the brain. "Using our newly developed and more-accurate techniques, we found no association between mobile phone use and cancer, providing more evidence to suggest they don't cause brain cancer," Naohito Yamaguchi, who led the research, said...more...
