Is something wrong with so-net?

I don't know if anybody else here uses so-net for their ISP, but there's something flaky going on.

As of this morning (or possibly a little earlier) I am unable to send mail using OSX Mail and my domain's mail service. (The last time I sent mail was 7:30PM on the 3rd.) I can receive just fine, and there's no problem with web-based mail, but I cannot send. when I try, I get the following message:

"The server response was: X-RBL-Warning-RBL: 218.41.xxx.xxx is in a blacklist at dynablock.njabl.org."

I've reset my modem and obtained a new IP, but no luck. Both IPs started with 218.41, and I got the same error message with both.

Has there been anything in the J-news about some spammers using so-net and causing problems? From what I know (which isn't much on this subject) ranges of IPs tend to get blacklisted only when there are spamming or DDOS problems.

Any help or ideas anybody can come up with on this matter would be most appreciated.

It's not just one IP. A whole block of them have been blacklisted. When I try to remove either IP, I get the followng message:

Here is the result from your request:

218.41.xxx.xxx not found in the list.

Furthermore, I can't get things unblocked myself. Quoted from the remove.html page linked above:

If the neither of the above are true, and the request comes from anyone other than the ISP that owns the IP space, the request will be totally ignored.

It looks like only so-net can get things unblocked.

I feel for you.

So-net is part of Sony, right? I hope their ISP support is better than their computer support. If it isn't I suggest you give up now and change ISPs.

Yeah, they're a Sony service. They weren't my choice of ISP, my boss' husband is the one who arranged for the net hookup.

I doubt I can get much done by calling them myself, so if things don't resolve on their own (which I doubt they will), I'll have him call them. If that doesn't work I'll just change ISPs.
