I'll try to get you a tape of that

Thanks besides the Fiesta Bowl that's the game I most want to see. Nothing against Louisville either I just wanted to see BSU pull off a perfect season. I guess cause Utah was WAC school when I was a student there and Boise is really out in those cold snowy mountains. Fucking Idaho, it's more Utah than Utah  .

OK The Rose Bowl is underway but before any BCS games scores come in here's an update:

4th Place: canman, 18, dude you predicted the exact score of the Cotton Bowl, congratulations, too bad you picked the wrong team to win :P

3rd Place: Petey22

2nd Place: Tie AK and dimwit 32, DAWGS by Three and I guessed it! My sister was a cheerleader there, btw.

1st Place Sparky: 38 points

Michigan starting to pull ahead 31-21 early in the fourth...

Let's go BLUE!

UT QB runs back 20 yarder

It's 31-28 Michigan--great game with 8:51 to go.

You know, I chose Texas as a BCS protest as well because I didn't like the way Michigan lost their rivalry game against the Buckeyes but still got to play in such a prestigious bowl game. Of course, Cal was jipped but you can't really blame Texas for that. But since Cal lost their bowl game anyway, I guess those BCS guys feel pretty smug.

OK With just the Orange Bowl left here's the situation: Unfortunately, canman and Pete are no longer mathematically in a possible situation to win. Dimwit can only win in the unlikely event that he guessed the spread. Otherwise it comes down to me and Sparky. If OU wins so do I. Same for Sparky with USC. Go Sooners.

Clash of the Titans! Should be a good matchup. I'll be heading to the bar to watch this one in Hi-Def! ESPN plays in widescreen now.

Let's go Trojans!

OK It's all over. Again thanks a ton to everyone who participated and made this thread and this game a success. As official score keeper it took a lot of time to update all the scores but I enjoyed doing it. In last place is deltaco with only four points. However, my fellow Ute fan's singleminded concern with my Alma Mater led him to be the only player whose picks were 100% correct. For that impressive statistic hats off to deltaco. 2nd to last is kamome who managed to pick up 18 points with only six picks. My ass was a little chapped with his refusal to just have a guess with the teams he doesn't know but I used vasaline on my chapped ass and it feels much better now. Now among the real contenders , assuming that misery really does love company canman and Blah Pete should be happy together tied for 4th place with 36 points apiece. In 3rd place it's yours truely, AssKissinger with a grand total of 44 points. 2nd place belongs to dimwit (whose name is apparently a misnomer) who made it all the way up to 50 points. Well done.    And congratulations to the First Annual Fucked Gaijin College Bowl Challenge Champion. He's serious about dirt and he's serious as a heart attack about picking the winners. With 52 points the 1st place prize goes to (drum roll please) Mr. Sparkle!!!

Mr. Sparkle, how does it feel to win the The First Annual FG College Bowl Challenge?

What in your opinion was the most exciting game this year?

Do you feel that Utah and Auburn deserve a piece of the national championship or does it belong to USC alone?

Did you use any special techniques when you made your predictions?

Will you be back to play again next bowl season?

Who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl?

OK Thanks again everybody...

AK

Thanks for organizing this. It got me interested in college football again. My interest has lagged over the years without exposure to TV. :(
Actually the JCOM sports channel starts airing the collage games around March or April. :x

Anyone see the USC game? Was it braodcast anywhere in Japan? I am in Korea this week and they showed it on the US Military channel here. I had to go work just as the game was starting.

You're welcome.

That's great.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think keeping up with your favorite teams is a good thing to do when you live overseas. It helps keep you a little more culturally intact. Sometimes, though, it makes me so homesick I could cry. Last year, I was in America during the Holidays and I had so much fun watching the games with my dad and brother. And Utah was in the Liberty Bowl and they won. Man, I was hollerin' an dancing around, plus NFL and NBA and everything. This has been a sweet season for my school but I can't deny it's bittersweet being the only person around who even gives a shit. deltaco despite never posting a damn thing even remotely Japan related really made my day posting all his shit about the Utah games. FG has made it so at least I can share my interest in the games with someone. Even if yall are just bits of light on my computer moniter. I enjoy the interaction. Shit, I feel sorry for people who come from countries with far less sports coverage. My buddy likes Irish football and of course it's never on TV at all. Americans are really lucky to have the exposure we do.

I had to go work just as the game was starting.

That's totally sucky. Condolences. I'm getting a tape sent. I can send it on to you after I watch it, if you like. Some people don't like watching games not live but it really doesn't bother me. Sometimes I even watch the same game two or three times. I don't even know how many times I've watched the Winter Olympics from Salt Lake City. I love it when America sweeps the half pipe snowboarding: Gold Silver and Bronze! I never get bored of it!

Thanks. The contest was alot of fun. Next year let's hope for more participants. Congrads to Mr Sparkle for his excellent prognostication. As for the games I saw - THE most entertaining game was the Rose Bowl. The Sugar Bowl despite it's close score was a Game where neither team really wanted to win, so no Auburn was no claim to the national championship. I really wonder how good Oklahoma was in the regular season as they stink out the joint at the Orange Bowl and I don't know how or why Pittsburg got into major bowl game.

Anyhow, I guess the lack of a hockey season has really got me back into watching football again. As I really enjoyed sitting down and watching collage FB again.

I don't know how or why Pittsburg got into major bowl game.

They automatically qualified because they won the Big East. You know the Big East is a major conference and the MWC and the WAC are 'mid majors' even though their champs can't even come close to the level of play that Boise State and Utah demonstrated this year.

Auburn was no claim to the national championship

I think Auburn is one of the legit tri-champions: Auburn, USC and Utah.

But only this year, next year I'm back with a vengence baby. By the way anybody interested in March madness, maybe we can get soemthing going for that. Anyway thanks again. Mr. Sparkle, when are you heading off to Vegas, with that kind of record you could make a lot of money.

Thank you.

I was thinking about that. It would be a bit harder to organize. One way would be when they get to the final 32 (that's how many they start with, right?) each player could rank who they think the final eight will be in order of their ultimate position. Then they could get one point for each team that made it. 2 points for guessing their final position exactly and four points for correctly predicting the final National Champs before the tip off of March Madness. Just a rough draft. Do you have any ideas how we could organize it? Another way would be to just make your picks day by day as the tourny goes on. What do you think? We could also say just pick and five teams. The teams final outcome is worth the inverse of their positioning out of the final 32. So if one of your five picks does win it all you get 32 points for that pick. If they go out in the first round they only earn you 1 point. So sweet sixteen is worth 16 points. Final eight 24 points. Final four 28 points. Final 30 points. Winning the final 32. Of course also some kind of bonus for picking the National Champs like 10 points or something. I'll tell you what. If you organize a game I'll play it :) .Keep in mind that you're gonna wanna keep the math simple :D !

There's gotta' be an online method for tracking NCAA betting pools. I don't know if Yahoo! does it, but it's worth a look-see come March. And there may be other free websites out there that will do it. That way, AK or whoever won't have to sit for hours and tally the points.

By the way, sorry AK for chapping your ass. I've had to deal with some real world problems lately and couldn't put in the time to guess. But you did a great job and I think these betting pools should be a running constant on FG. We just need to attract more armchair sports nuts to get things more exciting.

Is anyone interested in fantasy football, baseball, basketball (pro leagues)? I see interest in NCAA sports, which is cool, but doesn't necessarily lend itself to fantasy play.

I have a fantasy basketball team just in a league of strangers on Yahoo. It's pretty fun. It's not so much work. It's just kind of like checking your email everyday. I think an FG fantasy baseball league is a great idea! Also, sumo pools could be fun as well.

AssKissinger wrote:Mr. Sparkle, how does it feel to win the The First Annual FG College Bowl Challenge?

I tell ya AK, it was great. The contest was pretty thrillin' too. It was gettin' down to the wire--ya'll were hot on my heels at the end there. I thought I was a goner! Everything rode on the very last game. Thank God the Trojans brought it up a notch or two. I heard "Fight On!" about a hundred times that night--music to my ears!

AssKissinger wrote:What in your opinion was the most exciting game this year?

That's a tough one. Hmm...the UCLA vs. Wyoming game was pretty cool, even though I lost that one. Wyoming was all fired up, especially at the end of the game-- and played with such passion that they deserved to kick some LA ass.

I also liked the Boise State vs. Louisville game because there was so much action and scoring. I loved the interception with a 92 yard runback that BSU pulled off.

AssKissinger wrote:Do you feel that Utah and Auburn deserve a piece of the national championship or does it belong to USC alone?

It's USC's baby, all the way. However, I do think that it would be more interesting if there were a playoff. Could you imagine the Auburn vs. Utah game? Then the winner of that contest playing USC for the true national championship? Now that would be awesome.

AssKissinger wrote:Did you use any special techniques when you made your predictions?

Well, I must admit that I did a little research. Rarely did I stray too far from the Vegas line, except for a coupla gut checks. In a toss-up, as a former band geek and member of the Vanguard drum and bugle corps, I went with who had the better marching band. 8O

Yes, but they have a rookie QB with no playoff experience. I still think the Pats have an advantage over all the other teams, but I am intrigued by San Diego. Man, they are playing some skillful football.

I also don't know if Philly can get through the playoffs without Terrell Owens. He was the difference-maker this year. Without him, they're the same team as last year. Assuming the Phillies are the same team as last year but make fewer mistakes, my prediction is:

New England v. Philadelphia. New England wins another Super Bowl, making Philly the Buffalo Bills of the 21st century and New England a virtual dynasty.

I don't think they can. Which is why I can say something wonderful. I predict the Atlanta Falcons will be in the Super Bowl this year   . I think they'll win it, too. I would go with the Colts but the AFC is so damn good this year they don't even get a bye. Vick against Manning in the Super Bowl would be cool. Very different styles. I used to dislike Manning but the way he broke Marino's record was so classy I have to say he really is cool.

BTW, one last question for Sparkle in the winner's circle: What school do you think has the sexiest cheerleaders?

The NFC sucks so bad, any of the teams can get to the Super Bowl. St. Louis just beat Seattle. What if they suddenly turn into the 1999 version of themselves? We could have a rematch of the Pats and Rams.

I agree that it would be cool to see Manning in the 'Bowl. I am rooting for the Colts, but Manning has never figured out the Pats' defense and may fail again this year.

Any FG Bowl Action This Year?

Postby mr. sparkle » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:10 am

Hey AK,
We gonna have a college bowl championship again this year? That was pretty fun last year. Made those boring days with the folks a bit more exciting. I know it was a PIA to set up, but I really thought it was cool.

Of course, I want to repeat as the Reigning Champ!

Thanks Sparkie, I would have liked to do it but man only an inaka ALT has that much free time. Maybe next year we can set up an FG bowl challenge game through Yahoo or ESPN.com or something. We could do just the BCS bowls. Like pick the winner for 1 point, guess the spread and the person closest to it gets 2 points, nail a spread on the head for 3 points. If anyone wants to play with those rules just put your BCS picks and guess the spread on this thread.

WTF Tommie? That was a great game! I can see USC fans being disappointed, but it went right down to the wire and Texas won with what? 19 seconds left? What more can you expect for the BCS between Nos 1 and 2?

USC has no reason to be ashamed. They played a great game, even though they wound up on the short end of the stick!

True.. USC is a bomb ass team. I give them credit for that but all good things must come to an end and they saw their streak broken.

I still think the whole BCS method of determining the national champion is flawed. They need to have the play-off system instead of having all the coaches having some silly weekly polls.

It was an amazing game. Having seen Texas play a couple of times during the year, I had a feeling that Vince Young was going to have a coming out party. He's like the LeBron James of football. He could probably start for most NFL teams.

I think it was a coming out part as far as the media (outside of Texas) was concerned. He has been sensational in HS, HS MVP for the state of Texas and for the Longhorns. There are already reports that he may well leave the University for Pro football instead of finishing his fourth year.

As far as being disappointed, a lot of people were joining you. People were uninformed about how good Texas actually was.

But, what a game, huh? When was there every a bowl game between two teams, obviously the number one and two, where both teams were averaging over 50 points a game? Where two Heisman Trophy winners were playing, let alone on the same team?

It was just a great game no matter who you were rooting for. Some people have blamed the USC Coach for going for it on 4th and about one with a minute and something left. I think he made a wise gamble and it was a compliment to the Texas offense. He didn't feel they could stop Young and Texas from scoring again, so he tried for the 1st down! He makes it and he wins the game and is a hero for the call. They didn't make it and lost, but I don't think that qualifies him as a goat. Texas was really good!

Just a great game!
