Report: Fat Americans getting even fatter
Extreme obesity is ballooning in U.S. adults

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Americans are not just getting fatter, they are ballooning to extremely obese proportions at an alarming rate.

The number of extremely obese American adults -- those who are at least 100 pounds overweight -- has quadrupled since the 1980s to about 4 million. That works out to about 1 in every 50 adults.

I could do with shedding a few pounds myself -- about 20kg worth.

But some of these people are *huge*! Every time I go home the average-sized Canadian seems to have jumped up another notch. :(

It's the PORTIONS!

It's hard as hell to finish a plate of food at a restaurant when I go back to Cali!

Also:
- no walking or riding your bike to the train station
- no walking through stations and up and down stairs to make transfers
- no walking to your office from the station
- no walking or riding your bike to go grocery shopping

- food comes in huge portions and is cheaper
- SUPER size bags of chips
- small size cup of coffee/soda in the States = medium/large size cup in Japan
- no onigiris in convenience stores in the States, so your choice is to get a fatty burrito or a dried out jumbo hot dog

Kids don't seem to walk anywhere anymore either. Most are dropped off and picked up from school in giant gas guzzling SUVs due to overly paranoid overweight parents.

It's the portions man, the portions.
If it feels good, it is good.

I know thoes but there are actual potato ones.
There are also like 5 different flavors like sweet potatoe, baked , buttered, plain(not readdy salted or with out flavor these are the real potato flavor potato), german, nori & potato

BUt you would have taken a loss on me: <----- lost 15 pounds since coming back to the States. It's cause the fruits and veggies are so cheap here.

Ranking by share of underweight children in the mid-90s:

Are they the "developed" world? I just saw a report on the news a week or two ago that Mexico is becoming a nation of fatasses too. I also saw a story about France a few days ago that said they have one of the world's lowest obesity rates. I wonder what they're doing right since they definitely have the money, resources, and types of food to make a bunch of lardbuckets.

When I was younger I loved the huge portions at restaurants but now I feel like I'm wasting money because I can't eat like that anymore without getting sick.

I remember these sandwiches my brother and his friend used to make when they were in high schools. They'd cook some bacon then cook some spam and eggs in the bacon grease. Then they'd put the spam, eggs, bacon, cheese, and mayo on some white bread and fry the whole sandwich in the grease. Holy shit that makes me sick just thinking about it.

BINGO! Yes, that is another big reason. Damn, I'm now averaging a measly one to two beers a week. So even though it feels like I'm eating the same amount of food each day, I'm still losing weight.

Sheesh...and people think that a Japanese lifestyle is so "healthy" and "natural" :roll:

I was using the pronoun you in the collective sense, not in reference to government policy. Had I meant otherwise, I would have said "that's what governments ought to focus their budgets/attention on." I specifically had Japanese people in mind as I have asked several dozen what their greatest fears were and got crime and terrorism as the most common answer, though my comment fits a lot of people.
