Good observation, The picture is distorded. Its due to the depth/lenght of the lens. Almost all lens' under 50 mm will produce this kind of distortion. As the subject approaches or comes inside the focal lenght. When profesional photographers want to take "close ups" like that with out distortion they will use a longer lens and even a larger format camera, so the image can be cropped to the head shot with out loss of quality. This is not a full explaination as I will let charles take over and tell me how it is done.

Anyway, I dont like this photoraphy style, it is used by sabra magazien photographers and increasingly in the porn industry, the colours are too vivid and there is no tonal variance. (since it is probably a digital slr anyway)

The only magazien photographers I like in Japan are the Profesional ones at e -mook (there are also amateur contributions) which produce Smart-girls. Small bit of nudity... The girls are off the street but some loor really amazing.

The girl is quite cute. Her mouth is a little bit crooked, a few to many beauty spots. But I would marry her tomorrow.
