200,000 to be the poster child for an O-bon festival ad. Headband, short Happi coat, and those tight white shorts. Everyone looking at my crotch to see if the myth was true. Didn't know the Japanese for "it's not the size, it's how you use it".

Narration for a machine user's manual on video. The English script was, not surprisingly, awful. I told the guy that nobody would understand. He didn't seem to care. Surely someone eventually got killed. I was paid 100,000, however.

Why is there a girl in an elevator who goes up and down the whole day? All she's doing is "Ohio Gozaimasu" and being cute  I'd find that job kinda strange, because when I go into an elevator in Europe, no one is there to say hello....

Ekuzakuri!
(Exactly)

Actually, most of the customers are hostesses.

Making slang dictionaries for mobile phones.. 8) (hey wait - that is what I do now!!)

(Do you know how many words there are for "penis" in Japanese!!!)

Also, answering support questions for mobile phone dictionary sites.. you know how many people email me every week wanting to meet friends by sending an email to a support line!!! I have some great photos that have been sent by random strangers. I should post some. They are hilarious.

(OK my job isn't that strange but I don't get out much so I have to find amusement where-ever I can find it.)

Hi GG,
For research purposes we need the complete list of Japanese words for "penis" posted here to verify that you do acutally work on such a project and aren't just jerking us around.

Jingai.com is hardly my work but I should post some of the emails I get asking me to help them join/date the bosozoku.

I agree. I could certainly use some expansion to my already extensive repertoire of penis nicknames.

A thread in the Premium Members area combining various penis slang terms with your photos from random strangers would be extra-special, FG cool!

That reminds me of another odd job I had when I first got here. Absolutely no recollection how I got this job but it was retyping a stereo manual for Matsushita.

Why they needed this damn thing entered into a computer I'll never know -- it must have come out of a computer via laser printer to get the copy I was holding.

It was in five languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian if memory serves. Took a month to complete, pay was about 300,000yen. Thought I was going to go insane trying to type languages that I couldn't read.

I declined to take any further work of the same type...

I get the feeling that in general, bilingual or multilingual skills increase your job opportunities exponentially.

Did most of you know Japanese before you came or did you learn it afterwards? I'm trying to teach myself so I can get by when I get there; but damn, I suck at learning languages.

Hell yah!! Literally exponentially.

I couldn't speak a word of Japanese when I arrived. I could count to 10 due to taking some basic Karate in HS, but that was it. No please, thank you, excuse me... Nothing at all. I taught English and drank copious amounts of alcohol!

It wasn't until my 3rd year in Japan that I really started to study. I can't emphasize enough how big a difference there between life in Japan if you can speak Japanese vs life in Japan if you can't. Having 500-1000 Kanji is very helpful in daily life too.

Well they are very easy to find - you know - ON MY SITE!!!

I have some great photos of some Indian stallions, some Russian girls and somebody even sent me some cat photos.

Most of the emails of people looking for friends are like this..

Gaikokujindesu.KavaihonKanojoishoto Tomadashi naritai Torukojindesu Dokushindesu 23 saidesu Sabishidesu 1.70 CM 67 kg

I reply very politely saying that this is a user support address for a mobile phone site and we are unable to help with introductions.

I was a promoter of bikini parties for 2 years in a row. Had to convince women to wear bikinis and enter a bikini contest. Put together the whole thing: sponsorships, prizes, DJs, etc. The people who attended still say that those parties rank in the annals of awesome Tokyo parties! 8)

Weird

I guess the weirdest things I've taught are an introductory economics course and a logic class - at an eikaiwa school. 8O
