It's not outlawed per se, it just isn't done out in the open. There are violent rape movies filmed in many countries in europe (a lot worse than Japan I might add)
I think Japan is the only country to have it up on the shelf at the video store.

That is a very good point to make. It is easy to call the Japanese police "Keystone cops" - I believe I've done that myself - but it is more difficult to work out how to change that culture. The police here did what society wanted them to do for many years but now those demands have changed. It is a difficult transition; the British police have are still having trouble adjusting to the fact that they no longer command the unquestioning support of the public - over 20 years since the first full-scale investigation into police corruption.

Antoher time, when I was working in the Ueno office (Akasamistuke was were I typically worked), I was stalked by a Japanese guy.

It was freaky. I was walking to the bento shop to pick up lunch. On the road, this car drove past me, stopped and started to back up. Some guy jumped out of the car and started to follow me.

The first thing I did was say...naw, this isnt happening...but every turn I made he was there looking at me....following me.....once I got to the bento store I told them I thought someone was following me...sure enough, when we looked out the window, the guy was standing near by looking at the store.....they said to stay in for a little while until the guy leaves. After about 30 minutes, I thought he left. I couldnt see him and we all laughed that it was my over active imagination....but deep inside, I knew something was not right.

Thinking the coast was clear, i proceeded back to my office....only to find out he was still there. FUCK, i was getting PISSED OFF but I was scared. He was following me again.

I walked a little faster. But when I came to the cross walk, the light was red...shit, I thought what if he catches up with me.....nothing happened, he only stood close by. Everytime I turned to see if he was there, he just stared back at me with a weird look on his face....ughhhh...

I happen to see an Omawari san on the other side, so when the light turned green, I ran across to get his help. BUT, nothing. The damn cop was treating me like crap, so I told him who I worked for and said...I am sure my company would really appreciate the way you are treating one of their employees, his attitude then changed a bit because the corporation I worked for was big in Ueno. The cop finally decided to approach this guy that I pointed out, but the stalker turned and ran. The cop went after him.....I dont know what happened after that because I just wanted to get the hell out of there..I ran into my office building. That night, I had three guys from work escort me all the way home.

That incident was the most disturbing experience I had in Japan. I called on my relatives and parents because it took me a few days to shake off that sick (pit of my stomach) feeling I had.....today, I probably would have turned around to kick the shit out the guy.....This has never happened here in the US to me........my relatives said it was because i look like a FG....now that royally sucked....

Overall, the Japanese guys I worked with began to understand me...they use to always put their arms around me, wanting me to go to bars with them...but as time went on, they stopped.....hmm, maybe it was because i would push them back and tell them it was sexual discrimination???? Oh well, it took me three months to finally get the chip off my shoulder to learn how to work with them...

I used to work with a girl (and I say girl because she was an 19 year old college intern) who was totally inappropriate at work.
